i have been using my comma 3 since christmas of 2021. over 90,000 miles on it and i love it. this is for the newer comma 3x.

i have it on my 2020 Lexus UX250h and my 2022 RX450H

it takes driving to level 2 autonomous driving.

it will keep you in lane without having hands on the wheel.
it will keep you in lane when you are braking
it will keep you in lane during stop and go traffic.

it will do stop and go traffic. you can have both hands on a big mac in traffic and the car will start and stop.

FYI i bought mine when it was $2500 plus 200 for the cable. $1050 right now is cheap AF.

There are clones out there but i read constantly of failures. mine has worked flawlessly.
I run sunny pilot fork.

You dont need to drive a lot to need this or appreciate this device. its one of those things, once you have it and use it you'll never want to go back LOL.
Unfortunately, my car is not compatible, but I'm glad that original jailbreaker Geohot's invention reached SD/mainstream.
Just FYI, Comma can do things other OEM lane keep devices can't because they don't have to take responsibility for what happens. They are sold as a development kit and user has to take the responsibility for installing the software. If anything happens it's on you.

I have a Comma3 in my Santa Fe and I absolutely love it. First used in a 2019 Santa Fe, and now in my 2021 Santa Fe. Hyundai has some limitations so it uses the factory radar SCC (Smart Cruise control) but fully takes care of the steering wheel and makes it "hands free".

I compare the factory system with the Comma in this way - the factory system is like having an 8yo drive for you. With a little bit of practice they can be ok, but if you have to "take control" they are easy to overpower, and you can't trust them with anything hard.
The Comma is like having a 12yo drive - it can handle most curves (I have even done a cloverleaf several times), and it's much stronger so if you step in you have to be a bit more aggressive at the wheel. But it handles 98% of situations great, doesn't need perfect lines, hell, the Comma 3 can see better in a blizzard than I can. Yet you'd be an idiot to let a 12yo drive by themselves, so of course you need to pay attention. I personally find I can pay better attention because I'm not constantly adjusting the steering wheel, especially on a windy day. I also see so many people crossing yellow lines and find myself wishing they had Commas also, while my car stays smack dab between the lines for hundreds of miles.

The driver monitoring system works well to nag me fairly aggressively if I don't pay attention well enough, and for the most part I'm ok with that, minus the occasional glance at something pretty for half a second too long. It also gets angry at me if I dip my head to take a drink from a straw, but that's the only remotely buggy issues I've seen.

Lower trim Hyundai's and kias has no Lane centering ( HDA). They have radars and cameras but the car doesn't center itself. i have palisade top trim and it can drive itself on the highway. lower trim doesnt do that.
This is not true all the time, it depends on your vehicle. My 2019 Hyundai was the lowest trim and came with SCC and LKAS and it "centered" just fine. My 2021 is a higher trim level and has a slightly better HDA than my 2019 had, but both are just so bad to drive without a Comma installed once you get used to it. Totally worth the price, it's just such a different experience.

If you were to fall asleep would you rather have a Comama 3X or not have one?

If I'm not actively doing something, then I'm sleeping.

$1000 for car GPS? What? Especially when most cars come with one?

30 seconds of reading would have caused you to not post this.

If you go to their page under comma 3x tab it doesn't do a good job of showing you what this does. Just showing a map and some cameras as if it was a combo dashcam/gps unit. Not until you look at the openpilot tab does it say it's a driver assistance system.

I bought a Comma 3 (not 3X) in 2021 and have since put 30k+ miles on it with a 2020 Lexus RX. With the stock LKA, the car ping-pongs between the left and right lanes on a highway. Stock LKA also stops working when the lines are not clearly visible. Comma is miles ahead of the stock smart cruise and lane keep assist (LKA). It easily handles laneless roads and doesn't ping-pong at all. Comma does most of the driving. I rarely have to touch the wheel during 3-4 hours of highway driving. If I had to buy a new car, I would only pick a model that fully supports Comma's capabilities.

For non-highway driving, Comma is helpful but requires more interventions. The "experimental" mode will stop for red lights and stop signs. But it doesn't feel natural yet. Although the experimental mode is improving with each update, I suspect it will take a few years to become stable.

The installation (mounting & software installation) took about an hour. I followed the installation guide video [youtube.com]. For reference, I know nothing about cars. Replacing wiper blades & filters, and refilling washer fluids are pretty much the only things I know how to do.

If Comma supports your car [comma.ai] and if you frequently get on the highway, I highly recommend trying Comma out! You can always return it within 30 days for a full refund if you don't find it useful.

I can fall asleep while driving easily, but with the Comma I'm still watching the road (doing something), I'm just not getting exhausted with the constant tiny steering wheel adjustments. I have fallen asleep plenty in the past without a Comma, and at least this would alarm and keep me inside the lines/curves a few seconds longer while I woke up.

I do chew sunflower seeds almost constantly while highway driving and that luckily works like magic to keep me awake. Seeds are my best defense against sleep, and the Comma's driver monitoring system is a nice secondary system I wouldn't have otherwise. Normally while sleepy I would convince myself I'm ok, but if the Comma nagged at me 3-4 times in a row, I'm going to just pull over cuz the nag is too annoying to ignore.

Those of you curious, these do work great.

Several of my friends with Subarus have them. And a few Lexus.

The only complaint I've heard is sometimes turns get a bit nerve racking, and the system does not work with lane changes. It just gets over. Doesn't matter what's next to you.

I'd be all over this but sadly it's not compatible with our bmw or Audi system.
Oh hell nah

They're planning on getting sleep detection added to the driver monitoring later this year supposedly.
