I'll just note that we used the Diaper Genie with our first and the Munchkin brand diaper pail for the second and overall prefer Munchkin. I'll also throw out there that the best thing to do with these things is to only use them for poop diapers. Throw your pee diapers in the trash (they won't stink it up), saves lots of bags over the long run.

these diaper pails require special bags that are much more expensive and harder to use than regular trash bags, I highly recommend buying something like the ubbi which holds more poop filled diapers, uses generic trash bags, and has metal construction so it will last.

I previously owned a diaper genie and after a year of struggling with it, it broke and I sprung for the ubbi and it's just so much better.

Save the money and just shake dryish poop into toilet. All that is left is a pee diaper to go in the trash.

And get blasted with poop smell every time you open the top of the Ubbi? Even quickly for 1 second lets all the stinky air right out in your face and into the room. even if you empty the bag every day from my experience and keep the charcoal pack fresh. I would much rather have the diaper genie or any can other "twist" style can that actually seals the dirty diapers off from the ambient room air and pay a bit more for the bags.

Agreed, although I haven't tried the non-Ubbi brands yet for comparison. We have a 9-month-old and have hated the Ubbi ever since his diapers actually began to smell bad. The sliding mechanism is really annoying to use and, in my experience, it does a terrible job of actually sealing in the smell. My wife sometimes places ours in the bathroom so that she can use the vented fan (since the smell leaks out even when sealed). Early on, I tested the Ubbi with some dog poop bags (so already kind of sealed, but a much more potent smell than a breastfed newborn's diapers), and the Ubbi absolutely failed that test.

Hard to use? C'mon. You tie a knot and call it a day.

I know it's temping to go with a regular trash can because of how expensive bags are but these pails are a game changer. Limiting it to just poopy diapers is a great idea for those strapped for cash. I have a 'Dekor' brand one which I find works well. I don't remember why we went with that one at the time except that I think reviews just seemed a little better.

Agreed. Eventually I just stopped using it altogether and used regular grocery store bags that I have a million of anyway. It was way easier to throw out and I didn't get blasted with week old poop smell every time I changed the diaper genie bag. I never used an Ubbi to comment on it.
