Amazing book! The elevator pitch is Canterbury Tales in space, but it's very well done and the sequels are ace as well. Totally worth the $2.

An absolutely fantastic book, by the way, one of my top 10 sci-fi books of all time. The second book in the series, Fall of Hyperion, is also superb in a very different way.

Good science fiction. I have listened to all the books and they are well worth the time. All hail the Shrike! Gotta get back in time!

Among the best sci-fi I have ever read. The technology and the worlds he showcases are always mind-blowing but also singularly grounded in a way that doesn't feel hollow or unrealistic. I love this entire series and couldn't recommend enough. Read all 4 books, they're truly stunning.

I liked all the stories except part 5 (The Detective's Tale).

IMO the 1st part really stands out from the rest (The Priest's Tale).

Great book, the story of Sol and Rachel made me a crying mess when I first read it. Bradley Cooper on a couple of occasions has mentioned wanting to adapt it, and after seeing that he's more than just the snarky guy in the Hangover, I'd like to see what his vision for it is.

Agree with everyone above. This is a great book. I love how Dan Simmons lays out the evolution and development of self awareness of AI in a way that is completely consistent and believable with the way AI is currently developing even though this book was written in 1989. Beware, this ends with a bit of a cliffhanger and you really need to read the second book (The Fall of Hyperion) to complete the story. I've only read these 2 and they're both great. The story comes to closure at the end of the second book but obviously is picked up again in the later books which are somewhat less well regarded.

I sought and sought for worthy Science Fiction books to give me the same awe as the first two Hyperion books(It's One Book). Dune didn't seem to live up to the massive hype. Enders game was fun but not on the same level. A couple other ones. After needing that fix and reading the Hyperion books again. I retried Dune and liked it a lot more with the awe inspiring expectations lowered just a tad. Now I've read the whole series from both writers at least 6 times.

Those are my go too when I absolutely have to have top notch SciFi.

Thank you everyone for your reviews Smilie I now own this book on Kindle and it's next in line after I finish the book I'm currently reading.

Based on what you all have said, looks like I'm gonna get hooked on the series like I did with the Dresden Files, which I also first found out about here.

Thanks

Won both Hugo and Nebula awards. This was a stellar book. The sequels ran out of steam by #3, but this one a gem.

Spectacular book. The first story in particular is a brilliant piece of sci-fi literature. Deep, thoughtful, and thrilling.
