I just purchased Roborock Q5+ for $260 in the other thread. Which one is better? I just need a good vacuum, don't need mop.

Any comments appreciated.

TIA.

Doesnt have lidar although it market itself being better than those that have lidar. I call bluff.

Don't have this so I can't vouch but most likely not as good as the roborocks.

I have had one of these for the last 2 years, and I would says it works great. It may not have lidar but it does a really good job of object detection and avoiding kids toys, charging cables, and what not.

Depends who you ask and the type of floors, but in my opinion the roborock is better in every way except the Roomba is better with plush carpets

My vote is to keep Q5+.

We previously had the j7+, with no mopping, and it was a good robot. It excels in carpet vacuuming, and they have a patent on automatically knowing when to go to empty the bin in the base (Roborock somewhat uses routines as a workaround). The j7+ is better at obstacle at obstacle detection with the front camera and can fit under slightly shorter couches without having the lidar on top.

All that said the comments on lidar being a top feature is a very valid point. The Q5 does better at navigation and generally I found the app to be better. For example I always struggled to cancel and start a new job in the roborock app, often having to return the robot to the base to identify that it went home before it would start a new run. The Roomba often seem to get stuck more than the Q5 does. You can get the S7 brush for the Q5, which isn't as good at carpet but didn't get tangled nearly as much and the brush-ends can pull off for easier maintenance.

We've had a few other roborocks, so that's why I switched to the Q5+ after our j7 plus died. The j7 got stuck in some sort of boot loop or boot sequence, and support wasn't able to do anything and simply offered us $100 off a brand new full price unit. Good luck!

After getting a LiDAR vacuum I can't imagine using a "dumb" model. LiDAR is amazing as it logically cleans and avoids most objects all the while being efficient. When it begins heading back to the dock, it doesn't guess where it is, it goes straight for it. I bought a Neakasa with LiDAR with self empty bin and love it.

The only thing that j7 can do is vacuum under my bed that my roborock can't because of the lidar bump.

How does this do with thresholds. My house has a lot of them between doorways that I'm worried about it getting stuck on or not being able to get over.
