The huge starting overage is nice for power tools, but otherwise, there are quieter, more refined generators for similar money:

Not sure if serious but probably 2 miles per hour with 900w continuous output.

need a plug/play type generator mainly for sump-pump back-up (or general household one/two standalone light/fan back-up). Is this a good one for this purpose or should I look for a different kind?

...and lighter. This open frame unit is 46 pounds, which means it weighs as much as inverter generators that put out twice as much power.

I've had that little Sportsman inverter generator for like 5 years now. It's nice for a tiny ~28lb unit - about as small as generators come - starts & runs like a charm, but it's only good for about 650-700W continuous, FWIW.

If this is the max dollar amount you want to spend maybe. I'd verify it'll run your pump but it probably will.

If you can spend a hundred dollars or so more you can have a decent inverter style generator. I know this is almost double the price but this is about as basic as generators come.

Probably not unless its a very small pump. The electric motor in the pump could draw as much as 3x the current when it starts before it settles down.

Here's an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgIA19fmvV8
That's 8A (around 1kW) steady state but draws 30A (around 3.3kW) when it starts. That's probably a 1HP pump. If yours is smaller it will draw less of course.

You need 15 amp 120v to get 3-4mi per hour of charging.
