Reviews of BrandsMart USA appear to be terrible. Does anyone have personal experience? Is it YMMV or are they just a terrible company?

They are local to my area in South Florida. They are a pretty mediocre company at best.

While everyone is entitled to their opinion, this isn't good information and it disagrees with almost every review and personal experience of people who have actually had them. I've had several and in stereo they're as good or better than the old home max.

There is nowhere that has legitimately sold these for less than around $50 each, so I suspect you're missing the mark.

Target had them for 29.99 back in october 2023. Using a 10% code and red card brings it down to ~25

I'm listening to NPR classical streaming on my stereo pair and it sounds fantastic!

check your local sams club, i bought a 2 pack for $49 about a month ago

I take it you didn't take the time to properly set them up and change the EQ, because these actually have a really good amount of bass. Especially paired in stereo. If you can't tell the difference between these and the minis, I suggest a hearing test.
