....they are based in Kirkland, WA -- a town right next door to Redmond, home of Microsoft.
They're more American than Anker, a "much-loved" company that is actually Chinese-owend and operates with impunity when it comes to privacy violations, such as their recent issues with their Eufy camera line.
I don't know about you, but I'd probably choose to recycle eWaste instead of trashing it. Or if I just didn't like it, why not resell it? Recoup some of that $300 investment. Doesn't sound like binning it was the Wyzest action.
As a bonus, it is also a USB tap for things like security cameras.

These have popped up on woot at $7 2-3 times in last year, so picked 2 up there.
(and now have been sitting on my "projects" shelf for 2 months, so I can't really comment on how these worked out yet)

I forgave them with the window/door sensors, but the constant security breaches are a done deal.

As for the product, it's great. I have it on my porch and have it set to turn the light off when the sun rises. You *do* need a wyze camera to use it, because it uses their app to use the features.
I haven't tried plugging anything else into it to see if it would work as just a pass-through without the camera plugged in, I'd assume yes.
All you have to do is click the link and look at the pictures. They cover the smart features, motion sensor, automation, etc.

The only thing is you have to have it in a waterproof area if you opt for this, as the Pan v3 uses a different USB cable than the supported models, so you won't be able to use the watertight USB plug that comes with the socket (it fits flush into the notch on the socket).
Because our outdoor porchlight is a covered, enclosed top/sides with open bottom one that never had water get into it at all, I wasn't concerned with this.
The only feature you lose if you hook up a Pan v3 to this is it cannot control the light on/off; the socket is only compatible with that feature with the supported models it lists.
Since that porchlight is already a dusk-to-dawn one, this isn't a problem here. But YMMV.
We have had 100% uptime with this and the Pan v3; the only time I ever had to reboot it was when I attempted to set up frigate on a server to use with this and I guess it just flooded the camera with requests and made it angry. Once I turned frigate off, it's been 100% uptime.
I used the v3's USB cable since it was longer (and black) because I was snaking it around the eave where the recessed porch light is. The porch light is a dusk-to-dawn LED and the area it is in is water-tight so I wasn't concerned about water getting into the USB connection part of the socket.
Again, since this wasn't using the socket's USB cable, It did not have the data portion that allowed control of the porch light. The cord that comes with the cameras themselves seems to be power-only. Since the porch light was already turning on and off automatically with the dusk-to-dawn feature, I didn't care.
Like the V3 Pan that is hooked up to one of these, there has been 100% uptime.
Funnily enough, the v3 pan one had one period of downtime that made me wonder if it actually died. However, it turns out the light fixture that one is plugged into has a dusk-to-dawn feature that cuts power to the entire fixture. 99.9% of the time this was fine, but when we had a ton of snow, there was enough reflection of sunlight to reach under the deck area just enough that the sensor thought it was daytime... so it turned itself off 24/7. Apparently it had always been just dark enough there that the fixture believed it was dusk 24/7 and we didn't realize it.
I just put some electrical tape on the sensor and now that fixture thinks it's dark 100% of the time and remains on.
So yeah, these things are great and if you don't care about controlling the light bulb and have it in a water-tight area you'll be fine with it.
