This must be a joke. These are very easy to setup. Love mine. Will save you well over $100 in a couple months

I'm not really tech savvy, but I had mine set up in less than 10 minutes...that actually included removing the old unit. Was by far the easiest and simplest "complex" if you could call it that controller that I've ever set up.

Another vote that this is easy to set up. Replaced an old controller in 10 minutes and set up the app/zones/map in another 15 minutes. There isn't much to this if you are starting from an existing system. This thing is worth the price.

Noob here with a new lawn to take care of. I planned on just getting a hose and water my 3000sqft lawn manually

Is that a bad idea? Are sprinklers needed for this size of lawn
Depends on the climate (like others said) and some other things like are you trying establish a lawn and then let it do its thing? Or are you needing to do it forever because it's needed in your climate or you have no grass? If the latter, you will hate this solution because you will need to be regular or your grass will suffer.
If you're in one of those climates, I would suggest taking as much of your grass out of the equation by making planting areas as possible and then keep your grass/watering need footprint smaller. You will have less maintenance and require less water. I'm not saying get rid of the yard, but for example you may not use the first 10-15' from the property line so make those mulched planting areas. I did that with mine (full acre) and dropped my water usage exponentially, but I still have it "sculpted" so the grass looks good in the space and I can bomb chuck-it throws for my dog.

Good deal on this and it is a great watering system. Works intuitively and I like how I no longer have to worry about stopping it during rains, it factors in the forecast and adjusts. It also adjusts for the climate in my area this time of year and adds or subtracts waterings.

I have a rainbird system that came with the house that has an option to include wifi device (100$) is that route better or replacing the unit with this one?
Get this one. I bought the Rain Bird WIFI device and that app is junk. Takes about a minute to load every time you want to pull up and stop the sprinklers. Does not include auto shutoff of the sprinklers unless you have a rain sensor. And after about a year of the rain bird it would lose connection for weeks at a time until I would reset it.

This one is very easy to setup. Not sure how anyone could say anything different.

Super simple to get going... but you get this tool for the advanced features. You should but you should take the time to customize it to your needs. Soil types, depth, angles, sun, dryness, etc. needs to be specified for it to run it's best. Took me maybe two hours or research when it was on the way and about an hour of looking up soil data, and moving in and out of the house to set it up well. The biggest thing was getting the soak and watering times right. I have sloped grass, was getting a ton of run off until I dialed it in.

Dramatic reduction in water savings in general, (>20% when combined with a rain sensor...which might be free after rebate from your local water co.) but it can run a bit hot in the summer because it's estimating soil dryness based on local weather days.

Biggest feature is it's estimating the water you get from rain and adjusts thebmoisture level to match ...which could mean a manual watering from time to time to get it up to speed.

Eventually I want to get a tempest because weather is so local, but it's out of my budget.

Thinking of getting this one to replace a Hunter XC Hybrid system with DC control valves. Builder left two AC valves in the control box that I can potentially use if they are in working condition.

Does anyone have a list of steps to change the dc valves to ac and swap out hunter system with this?
The swap is easy. I had an xc. The only difficult part was going outside to take pictures of the zones (being factitious here). No comment on the valve types, but I believe you can specify if you have an m.terminal.

Have this same model. While I love the "smart features" of this system. It was the single-most difficult smart device that I have set up. For reference I work in IT and I put hours into getting this thing up and running.

I wouldn't buy this again due to that difficulty.
It's funny cause I'm stuck in my last senior year of my computer science degree, and might have to change my major since the complexity of my programing classes, but this setting up this controler sprinkler doesn't come close to none of the hands on projects I had to execute and deliver in any of my classes.

So you either cheat your way up through graduatiaon or don't own sprinkler controller; my guess is you don't have any certification in IT

Yeah, I have 2 zones. Builder basically dumbed it down to front yard and back yard. Need to watch a couple of youtube videos on swapping out the control valves in the box

Does anyone else have the Costco app installed so when you click on links it opens the app... But it never goes to the product? Just goes to the regular shop tab.Been driving me insane lately.
Same here. I usually just search the product name/brand and look that way. Costco need to hire me to revamp their apps/webs lol

I mean to say that I already have an automatic scheduled irrigation/sprinkler system. It's just a "dumb" one, not a connected "smart" one. I'm not certain if it's worth upgrading and curious if others have done this and feel like it's worthwhile

It's not perfect but it skips after it rains AND before it rains based on predicted rainfall totals and soil saturation etc. It's pretty clever.

I own this; I replaced an older RainMachine that started giving me erratic access (and the RainMachine company is generally now unfunded, IMHO, with no new updates or development).

It took about 5 minutes to physically install, which included a screwdriver to remove the old unit and mount, a tiny screwdriver to remove the 8 tiny wires going to tiny terminals, and screwing the new mount into the garage wall and clicking this unit into place, and then reattaching the tiny wires to the tiny terminals.

App setup took ten minutes, and involved mostly walking the yard, taking photos of the six stations, and answering a set of questions about soil and rotor/sprayer types for each station.

All in all, trivial, and it's been working great for the past month or so that I've had it installed. This (Rachio) appears to be the new, big brand that everyone recommends, and I can see why - it's a breeze start to finish.

Not that RainMachine was tough…
Does this allow for hookup to current "raw wire" electrical? I don't have any plugs near our current timer but I hate those manualmanual click dial timers. I had a bhyve orbit at my old house and loved it, but it allowed for "raw wire" hookup to connect into current system wiring with ease.

It was actually harder for me to install than to setup!
Installed out outdoors and had one heck of a time drilling the holes for the outdoor enclosure in my stucco. I'm more tech savvy than handy Smilie

Awesome deal! Don't forget to check and see if you qualify for an additional local rebate.

People living in SoCal should be qualified for an additional $80 rebate:

Is it easy to convert from a 10 zone rainbird system? Is there a quick way to rewire, assuming no wire tags?
