may sound dumb but can these be downloaded to your computer and the transferred to a usb for tv watching?
No. You can download episodes to your computer, but they have DRM which will prevent playing on devices which are not authorized to play the files. That being said most streaming boxes and modern televisions have the Apple TV app which will stream these.

MI is ranked #7 on IMDB for shows with release dates in the 1960s. I found it interesting that the shows that bridged the 1960s well into the 1970s are primarily spy and cop shows (MI, 5-O, Adam-12, Mannix, Ironside). So many shows seem to run out of steam in the late 60s. Definitely changing times.
