Looks to be $300 off a similar configuration, however, for whatever reason you can't configure this on apples website.

Non-pro chip in pro models.
Now suddenly, everyone seems to like it. A bird to all those people.

It's horrible design and horrible managerial decisions. Apple is a multi trillion dollar company cheaping out on essentials for a while now.
I went from M1Pro 10-core cpu/16gpu (forgot exact) to M3 Air 15" 8-core/10gpu
I know I can get M3 pro 8-core with just a small price but I wanted 15 and I wanted something new since I had the Pro14 form factor for a while. LLM runs fast enough with 10GPUs.
I only plan to keep this thing until M4 comes out anyway. Will cycle it down to someone else or just trade it in. maybe new Pro model with M4 then I'll def switch again.
I actually bought 16" 16 cpu/40GPU 48GB machine and returned it. Can't use that much power. LLM was damn fast but not using it enough it was heavy af to carry as a daily.
then I changed to a 14" 14cpu/30GPUs 36GB but then I still didn't like it cuz it looked the same as my old M1PRo MPro14 lol.
Then I changed to M3 Air cuz I def needed the single core boost of 40% and LLM runs fast enough so I decided to keep the M3 Air 15. Bigger screen without the heft and now I can run split screen browsers and not feel too tight.
I had ass-pirations to run ton of stuff on Pro16 16-cpu/40-gpu cores and 48GB but once I got it... I was lazy and didn't feel like doing that much on my computer anymore. you know.. be cool and run lots of docker containers, some actual Vms, do some crazy video / photography work again, work with raw images again.... run 26+GB LLMs... Did a few of those things then decided it was a waste of time to do it on a single machine and I hated carrying a $4000 laptop and worry about it more than a $1700 machine. TOO HEAVY TOO!

That's still a 1tb ssd and bigger screen for those it matters.
