Gerber Affinity Copper Framelock D2 folding knife - $16.95 - Free Shipping @ AtlanticKnife.com [atlanticknife.com]
4.5" (11.43cm) closed. 3.5" (8.89cm) black finish D2 tool steel blade. Copper handle. Lanyard hole. Thumb pull. Pocket clip. Barrel construction. Custom axle shroud.
The 3.5" blade being made of D2, the copper scale and free shipping is what makes this deal, IMHO. Gerber also makes this knife in lesser grade 7Cr17Mov, which seems to be selling everywhere for the same price. D2 is a semi-stainless tool steel that is harder and holds and edge longer than most of your budget stainless steels. It will be slightly harder to sharpen, get wicket sharp, and shouldn't be used for stuff like food or ever left wet. Keep it clean, dry, washed and oiled afterwards and D2 is a great budget steel to step up to if steels like 8cr13Mov arn't doing it for you.
It's a frame lock, so you should get good, strong lockup, and the copper scale screams out to be
shipwrecked [youtube.com] if you are up to the project. The framelock side only has a small copper tab that could be shipwrecked as well. This is a manual flipper with a slot for your thumb, but you could add a thumbstud to the slot easily. Tip up, right hand carry only, but not a deep carry clip.
Disclaimer: I don't own this knife (yet), and I have heard some folks saying their copy was stiff to open, but a little lube and adjustment of the pivot usually fixes that. But, Gerber quality control is hit or miss, IMHO, so be ready to return it if you have an issue with the copy you get.

Nice call on shipwrecking, might as well have a little DIY customization with an inexpensive piece.
I shall resist.
