The 2x onboard 40gig thunderbolt ports is extremely impressive for this price. If I want that for my Asus board, I have to pay for a $120 expansion card (or pay 400+ bucks for a model that has it onboard).

How does it compare to those mobos in the Microcenter CPU-mobo bundle? Tempted to buy for a future build and wait for bigger discounts for the CPU and RAM later down the line.

MSI z690 Meg Ace has those and has been $200 for a MSRP $550 board.

I have the Ace and like it so much I got a second as a spare or back up. Super nice board.

I can't speak for this specific model, but I really like ASRock's offerings. I was having stability problems with multiple Gigabyte boards and their replacements. Moved to 2 ASRock boards a few years ago and they have both been solid and stable.

Doesn't the "Razer Chroma RGB" plate restrict airflow to the M.2 slots? SSDs get quite hot during sustained writes so unless there's thermal conductivity to the plate I'd want unrestricted exposure. There are some screws on the plate. Maybe you can remove individual pieces depending on which slots are in use?

UPDATE: There's thermal tape on the back of each plate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y...-y4&t=510s

The reviews you mentioned are practically worthless. They're unrealistic complaints from people with equally unrealistic expectations. Anyone who is seriously considering this board should check out a professional review. FWIW, if I hadn't gotten my own AM5 build to finally post yesterday I was prepared to buy it myself based on what I found about it. It's a killer deal for a board that launched north of $600, which was also one of the few complaints about it in the reviews I read.

I have a i5-12600KF I bought from FB marketplace. Would this be a good motherboard for it? I plan to upgrade to 14th gen in a few years anyway.

Z series is fun. I run a home server with one. allows pci passthrough without any conflicts, which the B series cannot on an AMD chip.

Yep, looks like a sweet deal for anyone shopping Intel CPUs. I am shopping for the AMD X3D CPUs for a Microsoft Flight Sim rig.
