AM5 will get at least 1 more CPU update, maybe 2. So at least Zen5 and probably a Zen5+ or more.

I also keep my systems a long time. Started with a AM4 2700x/B450 and have a 5600x now on the same board and will wait for Zen 5 maybe for my next one. So AMD does seem to support its sockets longer than intel on average.

Honestly, if you don't have any plans on upgrading again for another 10 years, then it really doesn't matter if there's an upgrade path or not as both platforms would be replaced by newer generations. I myself rarely update. I would still keep my current system except for the fact that Windows 10 is going end of life next year which is the only reason why I'm looking so that I can get it over with and hop on the Windows 11 train since my current system is not supported. If Microsoft wasn't ending security updates next year for Windows 10, I wouldn't even upgrade at all.

So please confirm my thoughts. I built my current intel pc at least 10 yrs if not more. So now I'm planning on a new build with a slow cpu for a non gamer with a future for cpu upgrades It's seems that the current intel 1700 line is reaching its end of life vs the AMD am5 platform. Am I correct in thinking so?

Every time I see a deal like this I perk up but then inevitably realize how good a value the 3600X was that makes the upgrade not worth it yet.

My case exactly. My system doesn't support windows 11. The OS is ending my current computers life. TY

You can install windows 11 on any old pc. I have it running well on a 2010 laptop. Download the iso from microsoft then create the usb using rufus and use the options for backwards compatability. Works better than win 10.

It really depends on what you're doing. Basic computer tasks you are correct, but the 7600 is noticeably faster in other tasks (gaming for example and single core workloads).

Not great performance per dollar. I'd pass on this.

The 12700KF is $199 these days and is faster in gaming (+10%), single thread (+5%) and multithread (+60%) all for $9 more, and you can use cheaper DDR4 (or DDR5) with it if youre on a tight budget.

You can set the 7600X to Eco (60W) mode, and it should still perform slightly better than the 7600 due to better binning.

7600 vs 7600X comes down to price though. Get whichever's cheaper unless it's <$10 more for the 7600X and that matters to you. I didn't want to have a useless CPU cooler sitting around too, which is why I went with the 7600X.
