That said, I'm signed up with American and their price was $527 for the dates I wanted (Delta was $373)

"Spend the same amount of money in this other place" was already my observation about Southwest, your point does not negate that.
Infrequent fliers would be better served the Southwest route than your new annual fiscal obligation suggestion.
