Not a problem at all. KEF is a small airport and a lot of flights only have 50 minute transfer time. I have done it multiple times and still had time to get a snack.
The benefit of Play is that you are able to easily book multi-day stopovers in Iceland.
The real way you're able to get a deal here is to buy the $125 upgrade to get checked and carry on bags and include a multi-day stopover in Iceland. Just checking a couple dates, this came out to be $600 round trip per person for me.

We live in one of the snowiest cities in the US to where Paris is always warmer. I remember spending a sunny weekend in Paris in December, so Jan shouldn't be any worse.
