My CS74 just shipped, I would note that the configs seem a bit confusing and I think the descriptions are wrong.

Edit: The descriptions were updated after this post. Both are white, the cheaper one with aniMe Matrix was the same spec as the other one, it went OOS but then they dropped the second one's price.

The CS74 unit has an RX 6800s, and a 6800hs, I'm a bit intrigued however as there are subtle details in the description that don't line up so it will be fun to see what shows up:

1. The cheaper unit seems to be Gray in color, not white, the gray is mentioned with the AniMe Matrix display….but then again the description is all messed up.

2. I don't believe it is 8 vs 16GB here. The description quotes the 8GB but the specs quote 8GB soldered and an 8GB SODIMM. I don't believe the G14 2022 was ever sold with 8GB of ram. That almost doesn't make sense at all, this unit has the higher end display and GPU, heck the GPU has 8GB of VRAM, did I Mention it says it has DDR6 system memory?!

The HP is a VERY good value and deal on a near-perfect portable computer, the display is incredible and the CPU is faster than this asus and more efficient. It is also much thinner than this...however...
If your goal is mostly gaming/video/photo-editing or any AAA games, the ASUS is the answer, it is much much much faster in gaming and gaming only. The Asus is also far more upgradable.

I dont want to be "that guy".. however, i was on the fence about the one from costco
and now Im thinking about this asus.. I am NOT computer savy.. Can I request anyones input on which one is better for the $700 ?

Seconded - I'd like to ask the same question. The fundamental problem is Asus's item descriptions are contradictory/untrustworthy, so it's unclear where the extra $100 is going exactly?

It's a good price and I would definitely take this over other bargain basement gaming PCs like the HP Victus (with its miserable RTX 2050), but people should consider waiting for the 2023 model with RTX 4050 (or 4060) to go on sale again. These have gone as low as $849 new and can be acquired as open-box for less.

Advantages of 2023 model:
Faster CPU (Intel 13900H vs AMD 6800HS)
165Hz display instead of 120Hz
16GB RAM standard ($699 model shown here has 8GB, or at least is advertised as such, possibly a moot point)
HDMI 2.1
USB-4
Supports DLSS and frame generation

Little tweaks:
The description has a bunch of errors on the $699 model, right down to claiming the $699 model has "8GB DDR6 System Memory". There is a second page that shows both of these are 16GB.
This has USB4 with a BIOS update.


That said, DLSS and FG are super valuable for sure, but in raw performance the 6800 also roasts the 4050 by 25% in CP2077 at 1440P and by 48% in FH5 1440P
