Edit: The descriptions were updated after this post. Both are white, the cheaper one with aniMe Matrix was the same spec as the other one, it went OOS but then they dropped the second one's price.
The CS74 unit has an RX 6800s, and a 6800hs, I'm a bit intrigued however as there are subtle details in the description that don't line up so it will be fun to see what shows up:
1. The cheaper unit seems to be Gray in color, not white, the gray is mentioned with the AniMe Matrix display….but then again the description is all messed up.
2. I don't believe it is 8 vs 16GB here. The description quotes the 8GB but the specs quote 8GB soldered and an 8GB SODIMM. I don't believe the G14 2022 was ever sold with 8GB of ram. That almost doesn't make sense at all, this unit has the higher end display and GPU, heck the GPU has 8GB of VRAM, did I Mention it says it has DDR6 system memory?!
Here is a different store page that seems to have correct details: https://rog.asus.com/us/laptops/r...ries/spec/
If your goal is mostly gaming/video/photo-editing or any AAA games, the ASUS is the answer, it is much much much faster in gaming and gaming only. The Asus is also far more upgradable.

Something to think about that will add to the price on this machine, with the current state of SSD's you will spend a pretty penny upgrading to 2 or 4tb, since you only have 1 m.2 slot; meaning full replacement of the drive, not just adding another one. The SO-DIMM ram in this is going to be slower than the LPDDR5 in the Slim 14. The 4060 in the Slim 14 will have more longevity than the 6800S (would be a different story with a 6800M), not to mention DLSS 3.0 + FG..
But saving $500 is nice!

There's plenty of esports games that run great on this and plenty of 1600p single player games that are enjoyable with sharp detail.

I realize not exactly same category.. but I just got a Lenovo Legion Go using AmEx $100.
I need portable gaming and at this price it is compelling. The LeGo is massive and buttons and controls every where. However, I still want to do KB + Mouse gaming. And when all is said and done, amount of crap carry around is pretty darn close in volume: power adapter (would use same 60w for both when traveling),mouse, usb-hub, controller (for laptop)
Hope order goes through and win the QA lottery and I may return my LeGo
Advantages of 2023 model:
Faster CPU (Intel 13900H vs AMD 6800HS)
165Hz display instead of 120Hz
16GB RAM standard ($699 model shown here has 8GB, or at least is advertised as such, possibly a moot point)
HDMI 2.1
USB-4
Supports DLSS and frame generation
