My CS74 just shipped, I would note that the configs seem a bit confusing and I think the descriptions are wrong.

Edit: The descriptions were updated after this post. Both are white, the cheaper one with aniMe Matrix was the same spec as the other one, it went OOS but then they dropped the second one's price.

The CS74 unit has an RX 6800s, and a 6800hs, I'm a bit intrigued however as there are subtle details in the description that don't line up so it will be fun to see what shows up:

1. The cheaper unit seems to be Gray in color, not white, the gray is mentioned with the AniMe Matrix display….but then again the description is all messed up.

2. I don't believe it is 8 vs 16GB here. The description quotes the 8GB but the specs quote 8GB soldered and an 8GB SODIMM. I don't believe the G14 2022 was ever sold with 8GB of ram. That almost doesn't make sense at all, this unit has the higher end display and GPU, heck the GPU has 8GB of VRAM, did I Mention it says it has DDR6 system memory?!

The HP is a VERY good value and deal on a near-perfect portable computer, the display is incredible and the CPU is faster than this asus and more efficient. It is also much thinner than this...however...
If your goal is mostly gaming/video/photo-editing or any AAA games, the ASUS is the answer, it is much much much faster in gaming and gaming only. The Asus is also far more upgradable.

I totally see your points but the upgrades for the legion are totally not worth it $500, and I am a total sucker for oled, I have it in every single device with a screen that's in my house.

I noticed CS has Anime Matrix which is a pretty cool technology and you can customize what's displayed on the outside with text/graphics/animation. If you don't care about that stuff, those 2 are about the same with CS slightly heavier.

Yep I just ordered a GA402RK-PH74.
I realize not exactly same category.. but I just got a Lenovo Legion Go using AmEx $100.

I need portable gaming and at this price it is compelling. The LeGo is massive and buttons and controls every where. However, I still want to do KB + Mouse gaming. And when all is said and done, amount of crap carry around is pretty darn close in volume: power adapter (would use same 60w for both when traveling),mouse, usb-hub, controller (for laptop)

Hope order goes through and win the QA lottery and I may return my LeGo

I originally purchased the CS74 model on Wednesday afternoon but it got cancelled today at 8PM. I just placed an order for the PH74 model a couple of hours ago, so hopefully this order won't get cancelled again

It's anecdotal so before anyone replies to me saying "but mine has been totally fine for years" I wanted to get that disclaimer out of the way. Having said that, I have had so many experiences with HP laptops, and honestly products in general, failing in one way or another. Seriously just yesterday I had to fix my mom's 2 year old HP laptop for a failed RAM stick. Wasn't one of the cheaper models either. I'm not saying other brands don't have issues, but I have had much less issues with Lenovo, Asus for example. Hell even MSI, which in general I also avoid due to a high failure rate in my personal experience, has a better track record for me than HP. IMO, go for the Asus. I had a zephyrus G14 with 5900hs and 3060. Upgraded it to 40gb of RAM and recently sold it to a buddy after gaming on it for multiple years. It's still going strong for him as he uses it to game and do CAD work, they're great machines and this is a great price
