This is a great deal for an IPS panel with these specs. An OLED panel with similar specs is $900, and not much cheaper when on sale. And with IPS, you have ZERO worry about burn-in.
Solid deal, and a good panel. Personally the real question is whether it is worth the money to just step up to Oled.

In the market for a sub $500 curved monitor (34" ideally). Is this a good deal? The specs look good but I'm not sure how this compares to other IPS models, and if this is a good price or if I should hold off...

Saw an Alienware excellent condition open box at BB for $680 (normally on sale for $800) the other day and was already set on an LG IPS new for $620 from Amazon. Thought long and hard about it but I just don't wanna deal with the burn-in risk. I have an OLED TV and it's absolutely beautiful but I'm always paranoid about walking away to do something and leaving the TV on something static.

I spend a lot of time web browsing and just my bookmarks bar in Chrome alone is concerning. So I went with the 34GP83A-B IPS. Awesome monitor. Was tempted to get a VA for the OLED-like contrast.

The 34GP83A-B is what I've had since December 2020. Paid $750 for it on Amazon at the time.

I've been using one of these for a couple of years now and I love it. Amazing monitor. Really good deal at this price.

I've been tempted to go OLED but I use it probably like 80% of the time for work (coding) and I don't want to worry about my IDE or terminal window being in the same position for 8+ hours and burning in. Also, text looks hugely better on this than a comparable OLED. Blacks aren't as deep obviously but games still look absolutely beautiful on this thing.

Not disagreeing with what you said but that's not the slickdeal way though, you are comparing MSRP to "slick deals" (pun intended lol). The cheapest that AW3423DWF has ever gone was $800 + $100 Dell egc plus 15% from a popular CB website. And if you have any credit card you basically guaranteed to have at least 5% off from Dell. Some have $599-120 from Amex which would be even better. All in all, it could be CHEAPER than the LG if all stars align. But at the very lease, $800+10% CB then 5% off is happening every other week basically. G8 OLED was also $600-ish a few times too plus whatever CB there is.

IPS won't burn in but that doesn't mean it will age flawlessly either. Been having IPS monitors for over a decade before switching to OLED, it's safe to say that older panels (>5 year) visually deteriorate as well. Max brightness will decrease significantly, color shifting, compromised color accuracy etc Such issues can be deal breakers just like burn-ins to someone, in terms of usability.

Generally speaking 3yr warranty on the AW monitors is very solid, basically guaranteed 4-5 year of good use if you can replace by end of the 3rd year. To me that's a very solid life span for any monitor, YMMV.

Then there is always the philosophical debate whether it's better to have a reasonably capable device that lasts longer or the best of its kind for a shorter period of time. Personally I went up from AW3420 (which is almost identical to this monitor with LG nano IPS panel) to the AW3423DWF, there is absolutely no way back.

With all above said, the newer generation of either WOLED or QD-OLED does look very promising, if one is on the conservative and frugal side, get this and wait the newe OLED monitora to dip down to a more reasonable price range and I'd say definitely give them a try.

I paid $599 in 2021 on Amazon for this. Zero issues and runs everything from BF2042 to AOE4 beautifully.

I just picked up the GSync version (AW3423DW) and will not be going back from OLED. Starfield, Alan Wake 2, Helldivers 2, Dragons Dogma 2, all look ridiculous on it. I unfortunately could only get 5% CB from the sale price of $900. But still worth it, imo.
