I run mine in VA all the time, Uniden R series detectors have fantastic shielding so they are very difficult to be detected. As a resident, I wouldn't use it around town (personally don't speed really in town anyway) as it's a but riskier with getting caught, but I've driven past literally hundreds of Virginia State Police cars running radar and never had an issue.

Legal in 49 states. Just because you think something is illegal doesn't mean it is. The law is written in books not your mind.

I live in that state too and still run one. A radar detector ticket (if they find it) is better than a speeding ticket.
Yes, but in VA, they also can seize the radar detector if they find it in your car even if you're not using it. Sucks to get a ticket and have your item seized.

Mississippi Code Title 63. Motor Vehicles & Traffic Regulations ยง 63-3-519

Current as of January 01, 2023

It shall be unlawful for any person or peace officer or law enforcement agency, except the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol, to purchase or use or allow to be used any type of radar "speed detection" equipment upon any public street, road or highway of this state. (You can't have speed detection equipment as a private citizen like a radar gun, but it doesn't say you can't use a radar detector)

I run my R1 in town (nova). I just have it mounted inconspicuously and have the screen off just go by the sound.
I'm talking about detection from RDD's (radar detector detectors), I don't bother physically hiding it, nobody is gonna see it anyways as it's mounted at the top of the windshield or on my visor.

Don't you need a Spectre RDD in those states? I believe those features are only available in higher-spec models like the R8

Interesting that Sam's Club would sell these. I can't think of a legal reason to have one.
Think harder.

How does this compare to the alternatives? Appears to be good value for money but what would you buy if you wanted something a little nicer?

When I was a teen, a cop pulled me over for one and gave me two choices. Get a ticket or run it over with my car. I couldn't afford a ticket so I was forced to run over it and he took it ๐Ÿ˜”

Wow TIL. I live in the ONE state where it's not legal and automatically assumed it was the case everywhere, especially since these are, as far as I know, only used to detect speed traps. laugh out loud
Virginia haha
