I run mine in VA all the time, Uniden R series detectors have fantastic shielding so they are very difficult to be detected. As a resident, I wouldn't use it around town (personally don't speed really in town anyway) as it's a but riskier with getting caught, but I've driven past literally hundreds of Virginia State Police cars running radar and never had an issue.

Legal in 49 states. Just because you think something is illegal doesn't mean it is. The law is written in books not your mind.

I use Waze these days, for the most part it works esp on the hwy. I always plot where smokey is, keeps me awake.
Only works if the speed trap is marked. I use both my radar detector and Waze. Usually I'm the one adding the speed trap versus being warned in advance.

I have another Uniden version, and I will never drive a car in a fleecing state like NJ without a radar.

Probably been said before but I cannot stress enough how great these things are! If you have any road trips planned these are a must have. I have the R7 but they are functionally the same, it beeps, you slow down, no tickets 😌

German autobahn, with mostly no speed limits, has significantly less death/injury rate than USA. The root causes of danger on the roads is human incompetence and lack of awareness/focus, not rate of speed.

Self-driving cars will solve these problems, albeit with some rate of failure, but a fraction of what us chimps are capable of.
If you have driven on the Autobahn the roads are also in vastly better shape than US highways and were designed for high speeds, two things US highways are not. Also the rules are SUPER strict. If you are caught breaking them they will get you.

Also its not totally safe, I have been on the road w/ fog and let me tell you I have had white knuckles and stay on the right. There is also recommended speed and not everyone drives like crazy. In Germany is is not a cakewalk to get a license, they actually are very strict and more than 70% of the US population would probably not get one (made up number). They also don't mess around w/ vehicle inspections (HU aka TUV). Damage, tyres, etc have to be in tip top shape. Lastly the autobahn is not just Germany.

So it not the simple factor of human attention the entire ecosystem over there is vastly different than the US which leads to a different mentality.

In 2024 you can sue the police for destruction of property.
Yeah this happened in the early 2000s, and I was 16 at the time so didn't know any better.

Hows the BSM filtering on this model? I used to have R1 and it always detect falls alert on BSM. I currently use Radenso Pro and good BSM filtering. Wondering if this will be an upgrade.

Radar detectors are illegal in the two states – Mississippi and Virginia – as well as in the District of Columbia.

They are legal in Mississippi. The law you are thinking of is for radar speed detection equipment (what the police uses to get your speed) not radar detectors.

I guess if this is less expensive than fixing a broken speedometer, it's a good deal.

Or follow the speed limit and don't blow $300 on an unnecessary toy?

That seems like the slicker deal.
Only if you value your time at $0.
