For long term use, its better to fork out another $1k and get the ones with the metal roof and a structurally sturdy frame. One wind storm is all it takes to blow out holes and rip the fabric covers.
I'm in Socal and I'm lucky to have any fabric topped anything last 2 years. The cost to replace these fabric tops quickly exceeds the cost of the item itself.

Buying anything with a fabric top is getting into a perpetual loop of replacement until you end up spending more than it's worth as a whole.

Buying a durable, non-fabric topped outdoor structure just makes more sense in every way in the long run.
Just keep in mind this is a three-season gazebo which means every winter you'll need to take the top off, still a great deal and if this is your budget get it. Recommending paying another $1k on top of it would be moronic.

Of course, it's worth assessing the local weather before purchasing. However, there are many places where the winds are not so strong and the winters are very mild. Like SoCal. (=Smilie

Absolutely not comparable to a furniture. Is your furniture flapping in wind?

It's all about the quality of the Sunbrella fabric in the Southern California sun. It's the same fabric here. I have not tried to compare features in windy weather.

I agree, but a hardtop gazebo would cost 4 times as much. And trust me, try Sunbrella fabric at least once. Mine looks very good after 8 years.

I don't think it would cost that much but it depends what kind you want. There has been huge popularity of those lever style steel top pergola. They are like shutters but I think many different brands use same thing and sell them, suddenly became popular I think they sent bunch of free ones to youtubers to gain traction. I am nit sure I trust those long term either.

I wanted to buy this actually, much cheaper and easier to build. If I am getting something with top that I need to remove at least it should be easyer to manage. My only complaint, we can't sit under that in light rain....

What do you think?

Hard top is better but will cost more. Fabric is good if the conditions are ideal. Not too windy, snowy, etc. I get heavy snow and hail once in a blue moon. So I wouldn't expect it to last.

I have.

A sunbrella fabric car cover with a 6 year warranty. Replaced every year as it broke down and fell apart until the warranty ran out.

I'm not buying any fabric exposed to 24/7 outdoor conditions and expecting it to last more than a couple of years, ever.

Also, there's the fact that the wood and aluminum gazebo sold at Costco is approximately 3X as much, but with proper maintenance will last decades.

With this product, the lifespan will be measured in years, not decades. Buy once, cry once.
