I bought one last summer (Smittybuilt), and after 3 trips, I hated it. The negatives are way more than the positives. I lost $600 when selling it on FB Marketplace. My cons: fully exposed to wind and they are quite a bit colder than my canvas tent. It's a challenge to find a good level with moving the vehicle. Every time you want to leave the campsite for whatever, it's a time consuming thing to undo straps, fold and pack AFTER removing your gear. Many times, one can't set up in a walk in only site so that means you sleep in the designated parking spot away from the actual campsite with fire ring and picnic table. That was a wtf moment for me. Mine leaked and took a full 2 days to dry. You can't park under tree branches. Frustration. It knocked my mileage down by 2-3 mpg and are noisy with driving on the highway. Climbing up/down the ladder is tiring and climbing down to pee at 1am is not fun. In the rain, the ladder is slippery. Takes 2 people to mount it on my Honda Odyssey. If you have a pickup, you lose it's bed room for gear. Lots of people like them for awhile, then realize their shortcomings. Btw, forget selling this on eBay if you have to ship it. Think expensive. FB had lots of barely used of these RTT's for sale and why I had very little interest. Conclusion: Get a good quality tent (canvas tent preferred) and one can avoid so much nonsense. If you think you want one, buy from a no questions asked vendor for a return. These are like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

We're you using yours for short trips or were you out for a while? I can't see this being good for a weekend camp outing, but if you're gonna be on the road for multiple weeks/months, would it be better?
