I have both.
1. C545 is smaller than 5500-2.
2. C545 has wifi and 5500-2 does not.(I use to schedule to turn on and off)
3. 5500-2 has a remote, C545 does not. (never use the remote)
4. C545 filters aren't that thick compare to 5500-2.
5. 5500-2 black filter is washable. C545 is not.
6. I bought the extra pet hair filter and stick it in 5500-2 for another layer. So it catches more dust.
Overall, i think 5500-2 is better.
5500-2 used to come with a remote. The ones I ordered 2-3 years ago came with the remote, but the one I ordered a week ago didn't come with the remote and it's not on its packing list either.
I bought two last year after the fires in Canada were making the air quality very bad in many places in the US. They work well, but the wifi will randomly stop working for days or weeks at a time. I stopped going through the setup process repeatedly to fix it for a short while because it's just not worth the time it takes.
Bought a non-WiFi model and it is superb for the price. Instead of buying generic filters my deal alerts here on Slickdeals notify me when there's a sale on genuine filters which fit like a glove and get the job done thoroughly.
If you are in New England area, utility company may also have additional rebates somewhere around $40 if I remember correctly.
This is true. I used the rebate program last year and I received gift cards back. Also they give you a rebate for AC units too
