This article compares the ROG to a Steam Deck. It's a different model, but the Z1 does get mentioned in a couple paragraphs near the end, and it's not favorable.

I just bought one of these on ebay. After looking into this the steam deck , the legion, and this (z1 extreme) the fps is far better on this and the legion. I guess the steamdeck UI is far more streamlined for gaming but I'm fine with tinkering a bit . These can be found used with the extreme version for around 400-500 on fb marketplace and ebay. Personally I'd avoid the z1 version as it will struggle to play newer games.

Try once. Twice if you want to be nice. If they don't resolve, chargeback on a cc. No point in wasting time with negligent or incompetent cs reps.

I'd get this at $299. It's a decent pc for emulation, general windows stuff and a lot of lower end games.

Prices on these handhelds are going to need to drop quickly to compete with newer, stronger, and cheaper handhelds like the Odin 2 which only costs $300 right now. Glad there are so many options it really helps the consumers.
You're comparing apples and oranges.

The Odin 2 runs an ARM processor. The Steam Deck, Ally, and Legion are all running x86 processors.

There's zero overlap there beyond what gets ported to ARM processors.

The only way you're running Steam games on an Odin is with Moonlight, which means you need a gaming computer running alongside it.

That's not the same as being able to run them natively, nor is it practical if you plan on actually using it as a portable.

Why do you say that I was thinking of getting the asus scar 16 or 18 inch 2024
Let's put it this way, if nothing goes wrong, and I mean NOTHING from shipping on time, to item being perfect, you'll be fine.... If you need ANY support, machine arrives damaged, lost, delayed, or you want on return it, you will regret the day you were born, and long for the days of ATT, Cable Co, or DMV customer service.

I don't understand people down voting your personal preference. I've had both the LCD deck and Ally Z1E at the same time before and I like the Ally more. The screen quality, power difference and lighter weight made me prefer using the Ally a lot.

Maybe the OLED deck closes the gap as it improves in all three of those areas but I haven't used it
It's because he's comparing his Z1 extreme to the experience someone would get with this non extreme one.

I picked up one of those last week and added the $80 2 year accidental protection plan. IMO, a better deal for that at $420 than a new one for $400. I've loved it so far! I've been playing high on life, some wii u games, and halo infinite and it's crazy how well this can handle things, even on lower wattage settings. Love that it runs w11 so I can just install any old game I have and armory crate is great. My only con is how weak the springs are in the thumbsticks. We'll see if I can get used to them, if not I'll probably end up swapping the springs for something heavier.

I just can't get past the fact they haven't fixed the SD issue after all this time. It would be an easy buy if I knew I could trust the product to work as intended, regardless if I plan to use the slot for much or not.

Does extreme or steam deck still run hot after few hours?

There are legitimate reasons why these go on sale every single week while you rarely see the Deck or Go.

These will continue to plummet in price.
