This article compares the ROG to a Steam Deck. It's a different model, but the Z1 does get mentioned in a couple paragraphs near the end, and it's not favorable.

ASUS Rog OLED will be clutch. As long as they go that route that is.
Yeah but maybe before they make the screen slightly better they could try fixing the SD card slot that literally catches fire?

I dunno I'm no business genius or anything but thatd be a good place to start imo

You're comparing apples and oranges.

The Odin 2 runs an ARM processor. The Steam Deck, Ally, and Legion are all running x86 processors.

There's zero overlap there beyond what gets ported to ARM processors.

The only way you're running Steam games on an Odin is with Moonlight, which means you need a gaming computer running alongside it.

That's not the same as being able to run them natively, nor is it practical if you plan on actually using it as a portable.
Rumor has it that the Odin 2 may be able to download and run windows sometime in the future

i feel like if this was $300 it would be worth it as a device to play xbox game pass. but i wouldnt expect to play actual games on this one, steam deck is your min spec, ally z1 extreme is higher spec

Wouldn't matter. Windows on ARM is still incompatible with 99.9% of software out there (basically everything except Office and specific Windows Store apps). If it had x86 emulation you could get away with running very light apps that way but you won't be playing games.

Agree. I have done enough research to know what I am getting here (or not getting) and I am fine with this device at $350 new.

Can you give me reasons why I'm thinking about gettting one I sold my steam deck but was thinking of getting one until I saw this deal
If you are seeking a reason to buy, then there are tons of reasons we can give you. But really, you have to ask yourself if you're going to really use it often enough to justify the price. If you sold your steam deck due to struggling with playing GPU intensive games, then don't get this. This is the non extreme version which lacks the GPU to handle it. Some argued that the SD is in ways better than this due to better battery life and UI. However if you're going to buy the extreme version then you should get that as it can handle GPU intensive games quite well, however do know that the battery life is not great. I play my AllyE about 3 times a week and it was well worth the investment as that allowed me to play BG3 and last Epoch during my lunch period. I have limited time at home to play so that was the most viable solution. You can always wait for Ally 2 to see if it has resolved the short battery life hot SD card issue for better investment.

Let's put it this way, if nothing goes wrong, and I mean NOTHING from shipping on time, to item being perfect, you'll be fine.... If you need ANY support, machine arrives damaged, lost, delayed, or you want on return it, you will regret the day you were born, and long for the days of ATT, Cable Co, or DMV customer service.
Damn did that happen to you? What happened

Get a Steam Deck over this, even the OG. I have an OG deck and the Extreme version and the Steam Deck is even or sometimes slightly better performance until you plug it in and go full turbo. Then the Ally is significantly better most of the time - but not always.

The non Extreme is a no-go.

This is the Z1, not the Z1 extreme. Fine for watching movies or playing indie games, probably some emulation, but not great for modern PC games. I'd buy it for $200.

Just watched this video comparing the Z1, Z1E, as well as both variants of the MSI Claw with intel processor. Interesting comparisons based on your use cases

OG Steamdeck goes for $260 used at Gamestop. Way better value.

I have the Z1 Extreme model and I can't comprehend why this was made. This version isn't going to run many AAA games that are demanding. I'd probably pick one up at the $200 mark strictly for emulation.

Serious question: my 13 year old daughter just wants to play portable Fortnite and the Switch sucks for that. Would this be fine for Fortnite mainly?
Not interested in all the AAA titles like COD or anything.

At $390, I think this is a better value than the Z1 Extreme at $700.

Anyone want to estimate what price the Z1 Extreme would need to be to be a comparatively good value?

Anyone think the Z1 Extreme will go to $500 this year?
I won't be interested it until it hits $500 BUT there are still tradeoffs like SD card reader placement, m2 card size, and one generation older CPU. I guess all will be addressed in v2 later this year but then the price will be around $800+. Some of the third party no-name brands have some nice hardware but their prices are also high and I have no idea on their reliability.
