That unfixable issue also effects the M3 chips as well……
Ah yes, a $7000 Mac Pro.
If you peel back the onion a bit and click on the link you provided, you'll get this: https://www.techradar.com/pro/sec...ption-keys

"Fortunately, it seems the attack is pretty difficult to pull off"

To note, TechRadar is awful at explaining how the 99.9% of the world is unaffected. I'm nowhere near an expert in this area but....this is so far removed from normal life that you'd almost need to be a willing participant and have already given up control of your device. It's not like someone can just sit next to you and siphon it out like in the movies.

That's a meaningless non-answer, especially embarrassing for someone who pretended to be oh-so knowledgeable. Tell me how this specific malware can be installed without direct physical access, or the admin password. In that paper, the researchers had both the attacker and victim programs running on the same computer simultaneously. Tell me how a remote attacker can make this happen.

Sorry to correct you but some malware can be installed without physical access to the device. They can be sent to the victim's device through a very specific targeted attacks. It often needs one misstep, some trigger or victim initiating an action like visiting a malicious website or downloading an attachment from what looks like a perfectly legal email, using a shared usb drive, accessing file from network share. There are many creative ways to craft and inject a malware remotely. For example, someone reading your post and if they have found your personal email through some web-scraping might craft a very nice notification email that might seem like have originated from SlickDeal, and might say user x has replied to your comment. Since you were on the thread, you wouldn't suspect it as much and might be lured into clicking the link. This is an example of a targeted attack.

I don't mean to offend, but everybody knows how malware can be spread. This isn't 1999! What you said is true, and applies to ALL computers, and ALL chips. I'm asking why this 'vulnerability' is so bad that people have to avoid M1 and M2 computers. That poster was acting so superior with his PhD and what not, but failed to back up his alarmist claim. Lots of people on SD are highly accomplished, but don't fall back on their degrees to justify their claims.

Come on, do some more research and complain about Microsoft and don't forget Microsoft is $300 per 8GB upgrade!!! Apple is $200.

You're also only getting 128GB SSD with Surface 9. OMG the humanity, please go picket at Microsoft HQ also.

Summary
Surface Pro 9
$999.99

12th Gen Intel® Core™ i5
WiFi
Platinum
8GB RAM
128GB SSD
Surface Pro 9 has been added to summary.
Subtotal
$999.99
Surface 9? Really? From 4 years ago? Nobody buys those, and they're nowhere comparable to a Macbook. In either case, $200/$300 is absurd for something that costs them $10 additional. Same goes for ripoff phones from Apple and Samsung.

Yes. Surface 9/X is still on sale on Microsoft.com but should be cheaper soon end of the year when new Snapdragon comes out and in machines for ARM64 Surface X

Some people love them and there was a comment a week about how they are in diff class (ie: tablet) but I argue most people spend another $300 for the keyboard and use it as a laptop most of the time since Windows Tablet mode is not a real ipad tablet type of OS and is not easy to use. I like the full Windows experience tablet myself but it's not because of the tablet experience but rather the Windows experience in tablet form factor if that makes sense (lots of windows, vs. locked in to a couple of apps on screen like a normal tablet).

I don't see them often, it's always Mac that I see in sea of machines at cafe and wework type of places.
