These sandisk metal flash drives are extremely hot when transferring files, and may cause a huge speed drop due to that. I would pass.
I've had this drive for a while now, and it suits my needs well. I don't use it for large transfers often, though. My use case is to transfer files between legacy systems with USB-A only to new systems with USB-C only or a phone. It's been very convenient for that, and it's been on my keychain for months now with no issues. I did get it for a couple dollars though, so that may affect my perception as well.
This is the older, slower 150 MB/s model. The newer 400 MB/s model is available at the same price from Western Digital: https://www.westerndigital.com/pr...4-128G-G46

150 MB/s is pretty slow but not terrible so. Copy a 4k movie (10gigabyte), only about a minute? If my math checks out. Several complaints about it being hot….. which is strange because it's slowish and big yet not dense.
I'm gonna pass..

I have one of these and I had the same experience. Drop in speed and burned fingers trying to grab the flash drive lol

These are fantastic USB drives I must say! I have a bunch of 64GB ones and they are a godsend working between Macs/Newer PCs w/ USB-C Ports and older equipment w/ USB-A Ports not having to carry dongles or adapters around. Oh and for printing/scanning using photocopiers as well! Just a simple flip of the cap to use whichever connection you need.

These feel far more solid than the mildly cheaper plastic version of these SanDisk sells and they are better at dissipating heat due to their all metal enclosures. That being said, they do get quite toasty as a result. I have seem similar with other >32GB flash drives lately also though.

Moving files on/off isn't the absolute fastest at 150MB/s, but it's entirely serviceable. I think if I was going to step up to a larger capacity than my existing 64GB models, I'd opt for the slightly more expensive 400MB/s variants though.

Maybe because of the metal case? I was going to post that the metal case USB drives are nice for streaming movies and such, due to the better heat dissipation of the metal enclosure (I have a similar one). It can get warm, but not "extremely hot". does it get hot enough that someone cannot even hold it? If so, then yes, not a good option.

I have this exact same drive and I thought I just got a dud. Have the same heating issues.

Too slow for a large-capacity drive. Hard pass for me.
This is what I bought in 2020 according to Amazon record. It has the same capacity but 2.5 times faster. Not much of a heat issue. Oh... the price is the same at $14.99

Oh, I didn't check the 256GB drive. That is a good option too.
