There's never going to be an instance where you wouldn't want this attached by cable. It wouldn't be marketable.
But if you must fulfill this weird ask, the best you can do is a USB-C male to USB-C male coupler adapter like this:

This is the one I have currently. The body is all aluminum and surprisingly not so heavy that I'm worried about stressing the usb port. Also my desktop the port is situated on the x axis so the thumbdrive is pointed upwards instead of outwards. As for it just free hanging off a mounted phone/tablet, it's actually quite balanced
Overall it's just less cumbersome compared to an enclosure with a separate cable. You just have one thing to plug in.
