The comments have enough information about how it's not a $20 fan. But still, if you found one for $20, please let us all know.

Any idea if the speed could be set and cycled on/off with a smart receptacle?

I am virtually positive the answer is yes, the fan speed seems to be set with a rheostat type dial, twist to the speed you desire. No electronics to get in the way.

I will know for sure once mine arrives as I have a smart outlet to test on. I had a fan we recently got did of that every power outage, or smart outlet use, it would start back up on high. Super annoying.

Crazy good deal. If I needed another one, I would be all over this.

Elwood2 -- You could use a smart on/off switch, but definitely not a smart dimmer --- at least out of the box. The DC fan still plugs into a brick to convert to AC. Even so, the DC motor control is on the fan, not on the brick.

Thinking aloud here but if I wanted to make this fan fully "smart" with adjustable level, I would mount an Arduino controlled stepper motor that turned the knob on the fan.

Vornados are awesome. I already have several other models still going strong but this is a great price and can never have too many with summers getting hotter and hotter .

It should work. I do it with a 633DC. Works great.

I got this deal... I really like these DC fans with variable speed control!!! Will be nice for the TX summer.

Seems to be a record low for this as far as I can tell. Note that this is the DC motor model, not the normal AC motor version which is cheaper and runs around $80. This is $100-129 everywhere and runs $80 or more used or refurbished.

Not that I can see. It adjusts in height, but only a handful of inches

It does appear shorter than your average stormtrooper.

Simple on/off smart switch though, correct? You should not control these with a dimmer.
