Just a heads up that this does not include a pico remote
FYI, Walmart has several Lutron items marked down as "Clearance" including this item which is why Amazon is probably matching.

Walmart also has the official Lutron repeater box which has 60 feet of range compared to 30 feet with the hub and this dimmer.

I rarely ever see this thing go on sale, and it's currently $51.xx
I bought it instead. Can be powered by a USB cable too.

These also have the benefit of being a range extender for the Lutron signal.

Do I need a hub for it to work with Alexa?

Hmmm. I guess this is an ok price for just one module. I bought the kit with 2 of these, 2 pico's, 2 pedestals for the pico's and a hub for $85

For the extra $15 over 2 of these, the bundle is a much better deal.

Well, just checked and the bundle is no longer available.

$30 just to add dim control to an existing light. You could have gotten a light that dims at this price isn't it?

Something like this:

Most people shopping Caseta products are looking to integrate them with their smart home.

I have a few lutron switches around the house, but with smart bulbs available, is there a use case that is more useful with these lutron dimmers?
Bulbs die. I mean sure, electronics die too, but this is much less likely to die than a bulb.

I would say it is better to make fixtures smart (as this does with lamps) than it is to make a consumable (bulbs) smart.

A. That's a full lamp - that's kind of ugly too.
B. This doesn't just add dim control to a lamp, it adds smart control to it as well.
C. You can control multiple lamps with this module.

I just bought this at Home Depot yesterday for $40ish... Debating whether I should return it and buy it again from HD for price match + 10% CB via Chase card.

Lutron Caseta series devices REQUIRES Lutron Smart Hub to work (or at least that's the only official supported option).

You could integrate Lutron Smart Hub /Caseta Devices with other smart home solutions, such as Google Home, Samsung Smart things, Apple Home kit, Home Assistant ONLY when you have that smart hub.

Lutron uses a proprietary wireless protocol, that means you must use their hub to get the full set of features. No other hubs can connect to these products wirelessly.

That said, many systems can use the API as a backhaul to send commands to this system. And with their Hub Pro, you can use a local system to inject local commands as well (some systems like Hubitat require a Pro Hub).

Yes. You'll need to have all Lutron Caseta Devices connected to either Lutron Smart Hub or Lutron Smart Hub Pro in order to integrate other services.

I don't think you need to have a Pro hub in order to have other systems integrate with Caseta locally. I use Home Assistant and have the basic Hub from Lutron. The setup is local poll/push and not cloud, and I can control on/off, set dim levels from Home Assistant without any issue.
There might be some advanced commands requiring the pro hub to function, or each integrator implement the setup differently.

Just a note - for some reason, you cannot control a lamp dimmer from a caseta in-wall switch. For example if you have a caseta in-wall switch that controls a ceiling light and want to add a lamp to the room, the in wall switch cannot also turn on the lamp.
Yes you can, this is absolutely wrong. I have at least 4 kilobucks of Caseta and have been configuring it since 2016.

To add multiple lights to a single Pico remote, add the remote to the hub then go to the configure page for the remote. A page pops up with a drop down list that says "select all the divices you wish to control from this remote." You cam select as many lights to control as desired.

You probably are just linking remotes directly to lights without using the hub.

Further, I have a Hubitat connected to the Pro version of the Caseta hub via telnet, so I can do arbritrary logic with all my Caseta devices. Caseta is the best performing (reliable) system I have tried for home automation. It operates at around 400 MHz so the low frequency penetrates walls and avoids interference in a way that 2.4 GHz just cannot do. Highly recommended if you are interested in home automation.

The pro hub integrates via telnet. The standard hub does not. Please double check this, if you are correct something has changed since I bought mine.
