I posted this a few weeks back, it comes and goes pretty often. It was removed by the admins. I assumed because it wasn't sponsored? Not sure z
Extended oil changes like 10k on newer cars with low compression piston rings is not a good idea. I'd stick to 5k mile oil changes.
Engineers are not perfect. My wife is on her second engine in a Mercedes C300, dealer maintained since new, engine replaced at 77k miles. 10k mile oil change intervals. Cylinder 1 wrist pin fails on the M274 all the time. Seems to be less frequent for those who change oil more regularly. Anecdotal, but, to say engineers know best is not always true.

Good deal with more grades on sale. I was holding out for their usual rebates. Normally, they run promotion in March till Sep. but it looks like there won't be any this year.

Do what the owners manual says. You are not benefitting your car one bit by changing the oil more often than what the engineers determined was the proper distance/time. You may not be hurting anything but you are wasting time and money 'playing it safe'.

after the warranty is done you are on your own!!
the manufacturer don't care!!

Here is a real world example of why your statement is incorrect. I drive on the highway 70% of the time, very little city driving. I drive LONG distances at a time, 700 miles, spend the night and do another 700 miles. The car doesn't even turn off during the drive times. I put very few heat cycles on my oil(which increases oil degradation the more you do)

I changed my oil at 8k then at 9k which is 2k and 1k earlier than that the engineers said. I send both samples off to get tested. The oil itself was still alright and had detergents HOWEVER, there was significant amounts of metal in the oil vs what is expected. So flushing the old oil with the crap damaging the engine is significantly more beneficial than saving $50 in oil. My engine would be $10-15k to replace. Now you can argue that something is failing, and I would agree but I would then say it's failing due to excessive lengths between oil changes. Since doing a engine flush(liquid molly) and doing a drain and fill with a few hundred miles, I no longer get the metals in the motor with oil changes at 5k miles.

The manufactures use to recommend you change the oil in the first 500 miles of a new car. But that is a pain in the ass for most people. I would argue that if you plan to keep a car for 10 years, or want 200k miles+, do an oil change at 500 miles.

If you are Mr Yuppy who just spent $85k on a new Mercedes and are told in a month you have to go to the dealer to have it serviced, you are significantly less likely to buy that car. Cars can and should last 200-300k miles but not with the maintenance schedule the manufacturer provides. Toyota and Lexus can hit 400k-500k if taken care of.

Fluid changes are cheap, engines and transmission are NOT. The wife's mom is replacing her transmission right now for $5,500 because she doesn't maintain her cars, it has 48k on it. Some people are dumb, don't be one of them. This woman has been driving on her rotors for two years, metal on metal and will not take the car to get it fixed. It's not a matter of money, she has it, she simply doesn't fix anything until it's inoperable.
Your driving habits are not typical. Most people aren't driving 700 miles at a time often. I get it if you want to change your oil more often but its probably unnecessary. Most people dont need to change their oil any more than the manual says. If you are rallying or whipping donuts on the weekends at meetups or auto crossing you probably want to maintain you ride a bit differently than normal drivers do.

If you have metal in your oil thats a sign something isn't working as designed. Frequent oil changes are hiding the symptoms of whats wrong with your engine.

I debated even posting my original message because its a hot topic with a lot of old dudes. My brothers are both mechanics of 15 and 20 years and I trust their opinion on the matter more than internet folks. Anecdotally, its always worked for me. If people want to change their oil every 1000 miles it doesn't really bother me, have fun.

I do my own car maintenance though and i follow the owners manual and no matter what conspiracy SD posters think is going on with car manufacturers and service centers i'm going to enjoy more saturdays not changing my oil.

Multiple UOAs on various sites have shown it to be perfectly fine for 10k OCIs. I, myself, change it around 7500-8000 miles though.
It depends on the age of the vehicle, the expected longevity, and oil capacity. My 2002 Xterra has a concerningly low 3.3L (3.5L with filter) capacity. Meanwhile, my 2017 Lexus RC300 has a 7L capacity. A newer vehicle built with more modern manufacturing processes and a larger amount of oil to cycle through the engine can obviously be changed less frequently than an older vehicle with a smaller capacity. The point I was trying to make is that you cannot just blindly trust a random "Good for 10,000 miles!" sticker.

Heck, most 2024 cars will go 60k miles+ without even changing the oil. Not something that I would recommend, but if you really have something against changing your car's oil...

I am showing a price of 24$ and some change for a pack of 3 5qts.
I doubt you're going to get a 3 pack. It is a mistake in the photos and some description. The original price is still showing 26 on that.... and says save $2. Original price on a 3 pack is never $27. I saw that and there was too much of a gamble to hit that... and it was showing up for only 5w40.

But since you already pulled the trigger... good luck!

Yea they do.

Why would people buy Toyota or Honda then? Definitely not for the looks or performance
