Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank busterjonez
but people seem to only come in Mac 8GB threads to complain.
lol
16GB of RAM costs literally $25 - make it standard and charge $100 more. Apple fans would absolutely not complain about the upcharge.
It's offensive from an e-waste perspective, it's artificial lifecycle shortening to ensure future sales.
8gb is plenty for the average users. This is great for businesses that used web based services for documents. We have quite a few and wish they were this cheap when purchased.
If you're planning on using this as a power machine. You're on the wrong product and would definitely need more ram. Which they have other products.
My two cents
oh wait no need to imagine, it is the best seller 8GB config across the line up from Air to Mac mini and iMacs.
Doesn't mean much.. such a 'green' company and fan base, and such a terrible waste.. amazing screen, processor, but when 8gb isn't enough in the future, The entire computer is trash -- should be illegal. At best it's most hypocritical
Never amazes me what folks justifying and do the marketing work for trillion dollar companies. A computer shouldn't have a single use. This machine can be capable of so much more with $50 upgrades.. for Pete sakes, apple should at least allow some upgrade path in the future.. Some unlock mechanism so they can profit (gouge/) when it's the current model, but allow sensible upgrade years down the line... But when Corp are hell bent on milking every penny, they won't... It's up to consumers to vote with their wallet.. unfortunately, increasingly, they don't because branding has become such a science, they turn consumers into cults.. not just apple... Samsung fans are equally bizarre, and such are all fanboys of any brand. Reading recent opinions pieces against DOJ is absurd... Amazing how even intelligent people think it will ruin the apple experience...mind boggling
otherwise, just silly talk.
Look at the facts I stated earlier, much bigger wastes to go after for eco-warriors if they really care.

or Porsche 911 GT3 as best Porsche for 300k instead of a poor man Cayman at 75k?
I think everyone put their own personal preference as mandate in these threads way too much.
anyway, we can rehash 8GB convo again soon in another deal I'm sure! lol
I see 1050, where do you see 599
💯 💯 💯
Not a good deal.
I have never seen that deal at Costco

Stats? This is neither a court room, nor a job. Yes, there's incredible waste in every industry. Saying there's worst, is the lowest common denominator form of defense. It's not the point. This is post on the merits of a deal and specific to the iMac. Not looking to solve the world's problems..just highlighting the pro/cons of this Mac. 1. It's a fair deal 2. Being a deal doesn't excuse it shortcomings 3. At the rate of innovation with chips, this isn't a deal which is super unique. We will see so many more deals like this and better, for months and years to come, it will make computer deals of recent years seem expensive.
There's a reason why even Apple deals have become more common lately. Sometimes, buy now think later.. this ain't one of them..

Apple supports with new OS upgrades for 5-7+ years (average is close to 7; it was a little lower recently with the shift to Apple Silicon). So there are easily 3-4 more years of updates plus a couple more for security updates. That takes you to about 2030 with this machine. It should easily last that long. I have 12+ year old Macs that still work well. One has 8 GB of RAM and still works well. It's slow compared to what's out now, but it does everything it needs to do.
