About this Game:
- HELLDIVERS 2 is a 3rd person squad-based shooter that sees the elite forces of the Helldivers battling to win an intergalactic struggle to rid the galaxy of the rising alien threats. From a 3rd person perspective, players use a variety of weapons (pistols, machine guns, flamethrowers) and stratagems (turrets, airstrikes, etc.) to shoot and kill the alien threats. Players can also aim down the sights for a more accurate 1st person camera view. Combat is accompanied by frequent sprays of blood and dismemberment as players exterminate the alien forces or players and squad mates are hit by environmental explosions or friendly fire. Enemy encampments and battlefield environments depict bloodstains and dismembered corpses.

Each deployment is 5-45 min depending on how you play. Each mission set is usually 3 types of mission ( blow up X, move X to Y, survive X). Each player gets 5 respawns, dying isn't important, the mission is the priority, it doesn't always matter if you survive (as long as you get the mission done). There is a "meta" but that's boring, so there is 40+ different strategems (orbitals, airstrikes, big guns, turrets, etc) you can choose from.
It's PvE, has friendly fire, has various play styles, is hilarious at times and other times is just pure chaos. Watch some videos and see if it's your bag.
If you are into ranking, k/d, metas, PvP, mass multiplayer, "seasons", cosmetics, 4x, resource gathering, or other types of games this might not groove.
P.S. it has in game credits (super credits) that you can buy to unlock premium battle pass things. they have new armor and guns. The best thing is as you unlock new things, you get these credits. Just finishing the default included battlepass grants you 750 super credits. The premium ones cost 1000 and give you 300 when you complete them. You also can find super credits by playing (10-100 each mission).

The constant major orders have helped me feel a sense of progression and plenty of warbonds. I've been playing mostly with randoms and lmao, that adds a lot of variety too

I have boomer reflexes, and a grandpa's eyesight so I don't want to play a PVP game where I run into some youngin that is just plain better. Cooperative PVE play is just what the doctor ordered. The game borrows heavily from sci-fi culture so I can choose to fight either the Starship Trooper bugs, or Skynet with my friends.
I bought the game full retail so this is a pretty good deal for what has proven to be well over 40 hours of entertainment and bonding with coworkers and friends. The missions come in these "clusters" that take about an hour and some change to do. You can do a single quest, but if you finish a cluster, you get bonus experience. Doubles up as a convenient spot to stop, as well.
Not the best 40 dollars I've spent in my life but far from the worst. So, give up a couple 20 dollar hamburgers. Try the game out to see if it's for you. And serve them bugs a cup of Liber-Tea.
However, there is no endless gear grind. You get your weapon, and regardless of your level, it does the same amount of damage at level 1 as 50.
So I can pug into a mission with a complete group of strangers, and as long as I know how to play, I can contribute as much or more as anyone else.
Helldivers isn't a true FPS because it's 3rd person. This also helps for me because I get motion sick in a lot of FPS games (I'm looking at you Left for Dead 2.) As much as you love a game, it's hard to play when you want to throw up after 10 minutes.
This game has none of that. I am able to play the game with my particular style. Which is, semi support/sniper that is a bit further from the action. Let the youngins get up close and personal!
And a bit of trivia. Yes, there was a Helldivers 1. Never played it but was told it was a top down strategy type game.
