This heat pump version of this unit does have limits on heating, but works fine for most, as long as not too cold outside.

HOWEVER - it has a known flaw. When it gets cold outside, like 40 degrees or cooler, the heat will not turn on. The fix is you have to relocate the intake temp sensor,to inside your house - then it'll work fine. This is detailed on a few Reddit posts, and is an easy modification to make.

Overall, love these untis, but they will go on sale for $300 for the heat-pump ones if patient - have a few Toshiba ones (rebranded Midea's) myself and they are great!

The Danby version of this dual hose is on sale today. Item 1691101 Model DPA100B9IWDB-6. It's $299.99 now, sale ends today. Danby warranty 2 yrs vs Midea 1 yr.
I posted this deal last time and got it. I haven't used it so can't tell you how it is compared to the midea. I have the midea with heat and it's great so far.

When they remember how to make the hoses separate, I'll consider it. Unnecessarily thermally inefficient "blended" hoses design actually prevents the common optional upgrade of easily insulating the hot exhaust pipe. (by simply sleeving 6" flexible insulted ducting over it)
So they upgraded efficiency with the inverter technology, and downgraded efficiency with the counterproductive "two pipes in one" technology.
I have an inverter type with 2 separate hoses. I do like the added quietness compared to non-inverter units. It spends a lot of time NOT running full blast, which is a real break my ears appreciate.

...BTW, I'm not recommending this pricey Hisense unit but here's at least an example of a "fully separated" dual hose inverter-equipped unit. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Hisense-...5005522217

Midea also has a windows mounted version of this heat pump, able to do both cooling and heating. Does anyone have both and can make a comparison? It's also 12000btu, I believe the windows mount version might be quieter at least?

Anyone else rig this so it can drain continuously? Runs flawlessly otherwise.

I bought my LG portable inverter last year and my opinion about these machines is that, they do cool down your apartment fairly quickly. However the quietness is not quite as you would have expected, especially for someone who migrated from the mini-split world. If you want a relatively quiet machine, I would still recommend the window unit inverter version. I believe media has some discounted unit last year on FP for good price. Just search for it

Possibly available at your local Costco B&M (item 2575354) for same price $449.99, YMMV of course.

that's the definition of Not a Slick Deal. Not being able to find a lower price doesn't mean the price you found is good...

How did it make front page?
I'd say not finding a lower price is actually good because that's the best price available as of yet. Costco is known to list this at its "special list price" while supplies last intermittently. But you can always go purchase for the normal MSRP of $649 if you prefer at Amazon right now.

A window unit is always a better decision as they will always be more efficient than a single or dual hose portable unit. They are a little harder to install and that's about the only disadvantage. Always go for a window unit if you're able to install it and use it in your home.

I'm waiting to see a dedicated mobile AC that works directly of the solar panel. Yes, I know and we don't have the efficiency to run it yet but I trust in newer pannel and saving systems, then low energy compressor of other cooling systems!

Great but how is it different from the regular $180 one, we get as a deal every year at his time on SD, and I already have a few in this or that room.

I bought this unit last year and it stopped working after a few months. Luckily it was from Costco so the return was easy, but still.

Is this really the same? I see it has 2000 less BTU.

I heard that the heating on portable air conditioners is not very good. Do you know if that's true with this one?
Like other user said. Have to open and relocate the thermometer. Not too difficult. Just have to do some testing. Was able to keep room warm (74F) at around 15F last winter with no issues.
