Notice that that is not the atomic impact driver. Just the drill.

Incorrect, this is the first gen atomic impact and a newer atomic drill.
DCF809 & DCF850 are both atomic, but the 850 is MUCH better

This is correct. I have the 809 because I didn't know any better at the time. By what I've read the 850 is superior to the XR 887.

Though for what it's worth, the 809 is still a good driver

DCF850 is shorter and more powerful than the DCF809. Both are brushless.
  • DCF850: length: 3.97", torque: 1,825 in-lbs
  • DCF809: length: 5.75", torque: 1,700 in-lbs

I've owned both and that was my impression. Besides the obvious shorter length of the 850 compared to the 887, the #1 setting works a bit better (the 887 cuts out to early and takes a while to start up the slow drive). Other than those things, most of the specs are the same.

I think the 809 is way more than adequate for most users. The main exceptions would be professionals working regularly in tight spaces and tool addicts. My name is PEMP and I have a problem with tools.

Yeah, I view the 850 as the atomic version of 887. "Measured" results say that the 850 has a little more power and handles battery life better. Real world usage I probably wouldn't know the difference (other than form factor of course)
