For Android, I already had 1-3. 4 was free and installed.
For IOS, 4 was $3.99 but I already owned or got 1-3 for free now or previously.

Tried the first one for 10 minutes and there's way too much clicking involved (double taps and multiple finger presses instead of just using navigation arrows).

It did make me want to go play Quake, though.

Agree. These are my favorite types of games (for 40 yrs) and this kind of interface works okay with a PC/mouse but not for a touch screen. The double clicking is somewhat annoying but mostly hated the dragging/panning movement instead of using the simple 4-direction interface.

Legacy 1 is interesting mainly because of how dramatically the sequels improved on it. I recommend jumping right to Legacy 2 if you're getting bored of 1.

But the point is that 2 and 3 are very very good. Some of the best graphic adventures I've played on a touch screen. Reminds me that I need to dust off my tablet and finally play Legacy 4.
