I often see people needing to clarify about whether or not the RAM is soldered or not. Are there different terms for RAM to know the difference easily? Or do you need to go through documentation to figure it out?

This model says Soldered on the page but I've seen several instances where there is 8GB soldered and 8GB that can be swapped. So is this one 16gb soldered stick? Two 8GB soldered sticks? One soldered and one removeable?

I think that this is a great deal for someone who does NOT play AAA games. Good price, fast and efficient processor, large screen and not too heavy.

Normally if you see LPDDR which stands for Low Power DDR, the ram is alwyas going to be soldered. LPDDR rams chips are smaller, consume less power and has better latency and faster transfer rate than their normal DDR counterparts and hence used in very thin & light laptops for saving space and decrease power consumption. Since they offer higher memory bandwidth, the integrated GPU also gets a boost.

Apparently the 780m and the Arc 8 both need more than 16GB to stretch their legs.

No, they don't need more than 16GB for better performance. Not sure how you draw the conclusion.

I draw the conclusion by understanding how these modern faster iGPUs work.

In APUs, the memory is shared and dynamically allocated between the CPU and GPU. This applies to both the 780m and the Arc 8. The FPS ranges anywhere from 15-20% to sometimes being halved on the 16GB config, so it makes a significant difference.
