Dang I know The Final Frontier isn't everyone's cup of tea but to imply they stopped at four... 😅
What's up with these weird Star Trek collections where they only include 3-4 of the movies?
Doesn't include the full-blown more recent restoration of The Motionless Picture (actually my favorite), as seen on Paramount+ in UHD and HDR (Director's Cut).

So this is a no go until they release the other movies with it as well? $27 is tempting

Well they did eventually release the complete set of all 6 original series films and is selling on Amazon for $76.99 right now. If you don't care about Star Trek V and VI, then yes this deal is worth jumping on. The individual 4K releases are also selling for about $20 right now so you could just pick those two films up in addition to this deal but then you're spending $68 doing that to have a non-OCD compliant arrangement of discs on your shelf lol. But if that doesn't bother you, like myself haha, then it would be cheaper sure. I got the 6 film set I think around $60ish last year.

Not a bad deal if you need them RIGHT NOW, but the 6 film set is about double and has the director's cuts. Just wait a little for that instead.

I still wish we had gotten Star Trek Phase II in 1977 instead of these movies.

I could almost understand Star Trek 2-3-4 as that's one trilogy but it's weird to not include all of them.

Phase 2 wasn't going to have Spock.

Ok, I'll elaborate. With the original movies, we got about 11 total hours of Star Trek, and a lot of our favorite characters.

Let's say Phase II would have lasted 4 seasons as the flagship show of the Paramount Network, with about 13 episodes per season, or roughly 9 hours of screen time per season. That would be about 36 hours of Star Trek with TOS characters that I love.

36 hours vs 11 hours - more than 3 times as much material. That would also have allowed for a lot more character development for the supporting characters, which was mostly missing from the movies. I also prefer the short format, where an entire story is told in about 40 minutes.

With the movies, we got 6 stories, and I ended up not really liking 3 of them particularly. (don't even get me started about the travesty of X - but that's Next Generation) That's I, III and V, which means half of them that were just so-so to me as a Trekkie.

If we had 36 episodes of Phase II, I'm sure there would have been far more than 3 stories that I liked out of them. So those are my reasons for wishing we had gotten the show, instead of the movies.

They did this a quick cash grab once they finished the transfers on the first four films.. I FORCED myself to wait, as big a Trekkie as I am, because they ALWAYS release the full set later for things like this. This thing was selling for $60-80 when it came out and I hope they sit in retailers' warehouses and rot lol. It paid off waiting as was able to pickup the complete 6 film set a while after release for about $50 on sale.

Your kids will fight for custody of that one.
