They had a version for sale in the past (same narrator, prob same recording, 54 hours) that was one title/one credit.

This older version won't show up in the current for sale catalog. However, if you purchased it, you will still be able to see it, download it, and listen to it by searching your personal library.

So, don't purchase the 2-volume version until you first check your library, if you think you might have already purchased this title some years back.

To each their own I guess but I've seen the opposite in my environment with more people getting into it. I personally love it as well. Yes it is flawed but then again, what show isn't. In a long line of crappy and mediocre shows Shogun stands out imho.

Humble Bundle has this audiobook for $1. You can pay more for other Clavell audio books, as well.

I listed to the 54 hour version. It got to be a real slog man. The narrator was great. But the story's narrative is very loosely held together. I have read many super long books, but the overall plot of this one is tough to stay with. I do like Anjin the Pilot and you figure the book is was revolutionary for Japanese culture becoming mainstream into the world. I mean this book came out early 70s.

FX series suffers for the same reason. They're claiming universal acclaim, and the mainstream establishment critics definitely took the bait/money, but most normies like me gave up after the first two extremely strong episodes. Really went into the weeds from there...

Good find, absolute legendary book. Definately should be on everyones list of books to read before they die. It's rivetting from start to finish. Clavels masterpiece. Imagine watching a modern samurai movie, well this book takes you deep into that world, you'll come out with a much deeper understanding of life in feudal japan and this is a story that sticks with you. It's basically historical fiction, as all the characters and major events actually happened in real life during the time when Tokugawa was forced to take the shogunate from Ieasu (I think it was Iawasu maybe), It's the story of a early portugesse merchant ship that go waylaid by the spanish in the south pacific near chile I believe, They were facing certain destruction if they tried to make shore so they did the only thing they could do and try and sail for the east pacific. The portugesse had just made contact with the Japanesse in the late 1400's and this is how The captain of the vessel knows roughly where it is. After a gruelling voyage the book starts off when you make landing in Japan after months at Sea, most of the crew has died from scurvy but you managed to save a bite of apple every day to stay alive. You go ashore and the local japanesse lord captures them and tourtures and kills some of them. I'd explain more but I don't want to give away the story. It truly is a masterpiece. Action, intrige, love, betrayal, loyalty, he explores all of these and more as the main character lives his life in Feudal japan. you cannot go wrong.

It's nice to know one can still come to Slickdeals and read some absurd hot-takes.

Here's you: "There are dozens of *us*. Dozens!"

"Normies" - Watch out folks, this guy isn't like the rest of us!

This is the true deal right here. I'd much rather support Humble Bundle than Amazon.

Weird. I haven't watched it yet, but I've heard nothing bur praise from my friends and coworkers, "normies" not critics, who have. Seems to be pretty successful so far.

Actually thought Ep3 was 10/10. Incredible. I'm still halfway through the season. It's a solid ass show.
