I don't think it's Walmart branded. I think XPG is a brand created by Adata?

XPG is a division of Adata, if memory serves ... They have some actually good NVMe SSDs, and this logo looks very similar to their logo on their SSDs and DRAM sticks.

The screen is probably "meh", but a 140w 4070 for this price point is insane. This would be a killer deal on a desktop without a monitor included, so with that in mind, this seems absolutely slick as frick.

That's too bad this didn't work out.....
On paper, this deal sort of reminds me of an old Walmart deal 4 years ago MSI 15.6" 1080p 144hz, i7 9th gen, RTX 2060, 1.5tb ssd+hdd, with 32gb ram for only $800 but it was ymmv b&M unlike this easier to get online deal. I still have that laptop and no screen problems on it, but only 270 nits brightness. It still works like new today.
Yeah I know it like the Evoo Gaming laptop they had years ago. I bought that and it was a monster! Maybe I got a bad laptop. Hope that's the case and you all are winners 🙌🏻

Anyone have any insights on this brand/quality of laptop? I'm confused how a gaming laptop with a 4070 can be at this price point, unless there is some problem or issue. Is anything gimped or problematic? Best I can tell is the 1080p screen is kind of low resolution, but what else is wrong to drive the price point?
It's a solid plastic construction and the screen quality isn't top-tier but it's "fine". For the price it's pretty-much unbeatable. I'm fairly certain this is a Tongfeng laptop rebranded as XMG, which if so means cooling is decent at the very-least.

Would it be possible to get a laptop with these same specs from TongFang directly for the same price or cheaper?

I'll be honest this deal is kind of overhyped. It has a 53whr battery which is an instant deal breaker if you plan on doing productivity off the charger with an I7, bad display, and questionable build quality. Only redeeming factor is the 32gb ram and 1tb ssd. A 4060 laptop with better build quality and display is worth a lot more than the 10% gpu improvement imo.

Maybe this laptop is not great for the very specific situation you described, but if you want to use this laptop as a desktop replacement, keep it plugged in and plan to hook up an external monitor, these specs are incredible for this price. You will never be able to find another laptop with the same specs for the same price or cheaper, unless if you wait for another 5 years.

Also, the product page says the battery life is 16 hours.

First, no specific situations were mentioned, so I'm unsure what you're on about.

Second, specs don't always matter. As LavenderWalrus2248 rightly pointed out, the "coveted" 4070 moniker is all clever marketing, because the 4070 should at best be called 4060ti, if even that. Looks good on your order detail page, but doesn't translate to real world performance, as can be seen from numerous benchmarks where it often loses to the 3070 (not even 3070ti).

My first reaction to LavenderWalrus2248's comment was it's a cope, but I have to admit it is accurate.
