Lego discontinued their VIDIYO service a year or two ago so those tiles you get in this set are all but useless.
Still, this was a fun build & the minifigures are pretty cool tool.

IMO, worth it for the uniqueness at this price.

What was the full function of the set?

The original retail of this set was not $24 but closer to $30 your information. Makes the deal better.

It allowed users to make music videos with a specific lego VIDIYO app.

You'd scan the minifigures into the app, select any tile of your choosing (each one has a different effect (i.e. sirens, horns, etc)) and select your platform (like this car or a stage (another set in the series)). You'd then select a song curated by LEGO and in a 30 second clip, you'd make a music video & upload it online to a "micro" social media set up that LEGO provided.

The execution was... OK. The sets were generally unique & interesting, as were the minifigures. The only thing that comes close in a whimsical/fantasy sense are the lego DREAMZZZ sets.

I did like how it's incorporating some very basic elements of coding for kids.

Thank you for the thorough response... I thought it was like an rc car set. Now I get it.

The tiles are useless in the app sense, but are still cool looking printed LEGO tiles.

The mini figures were the best thing from the theme. The sets design were very lacking. LEGO released some of the prelim pictures and the designs were amazing.

Appears dead, just a secondary reseller for $24.99.

I believe the app still works if you have it. Just zero development or future support planned obviously.
