I got a YADA dash cam, a different model. It is for sure not a top notch dash cam, but it can get the job done. It records and saves video with no problem. The kit even has a SD card in it. For 6 dollars or the original 10 dollars, I feel like these negative reviewers are expecting way too much.

Yoda, can you explain how this Yada would risk security? You are not connecting this to your home network. This is a standalone & doesn't call home china

Maybe you should work on getting your message across in a way everyone understands the first time instead of getting angry about it.

If you had written this in the first message, at least people could have figured out that by "security" you meant "reliability".

Of course nobody expects this to look like a Fast and the Furious movie whenever they go out driving.

At $6 this is for the person who keeps saying they'll get a dash cam, but never does because all the good ones are $100+. It might even qualify for an insurance discount if your provider is willing to honor it.

Y'all keyboard warriors are chomping at the bit to fight somebody on slick deals that you misinterpret what I'm saying. Buy the $5 dash cam but if you can't see the license plate because the quality is so bad then what's the point. No need to risk your security, buy something that's going to work

It's a security camera for your car, if you pull the memory card when someone hit and runs you only to find out it wasn't recording? What do you do
I agree with that. But, this goes with $100 units as well. Good advice would be, add monthly reminder to confirm contents of card are intact.

I would buy this for a different reason though. I already have a front and back camera set that is of course pricier than this. But don't have Walmart plus, and don't know if this item is worth signing into a free trial again

This may not be able to make out license plate numbers… But in a "he said she said" situation. When the police show up to the accident and the other driver decides you rear-ended them instead of them backing up in to you.

Police won't even care about finding someone. So this user is completely right. The use case would be for a dispute where people don't leave or run away. Simply explains the actions. An unreal price for this purpose.

Everyone with $300 cameras is kidding themselves if the police is going to do more than run the tags and check for warrants on more interesting crimes. You have to prove who was driving. You have to prove they did all the damage. You have to fight their insurance. 1080 pixel will hardly get you a license plate at extremely close distance (tailgating). Stop kidding yourselves with your fancy cameras or trust in police or insurance.

This deal is awesome if free shipping.

If it comes with a 4GB SD card, it would be worth it for that alone. Is there something I'm missing? It seems too good a deal.

The card that comes with it should only be used for testing.

A 4GB card from a reputable company costs around $3 these days, so the one that's included is definitely bottom of the barrel in terms of performance and reliability.

The minimum you should aim for is 16GB, which only run about $7. And not because you want to record a month's worth of video, but because a larger card will do less overwriting and wear out slower.

For the expensive cameras, a high endurance 64GB card or better is a good baseline. But you're still only talking about $11.

Exactly. These dashcams are only good for recording action and proving who's at fault in a he-said she-said situation. Also, even if it is the other person's fault, good luck getting their insurance to play ball. I found out that it's better (and faster) to claim on your own insurance and let them go after the other insurance to get their money back.

Having said that, what you're going to be paying for is build quality and QC. How durable is it? Will it stop working right at the moment you need it? Will it be able to withstand direct sunlight for hours? If you buy another camera that is 10x the price, does that mean it has 10x better quality? Most likely no, but you're probably still getting better quality and QC...and maybe even support.

Ohhhh. I know better just had a massive brain fart and was thinking the ones I get for my phone etc. are 256MB when they are 256GB. I'm no electrical engineer but I am amazed at how much data they fit in one of those. Like I might start using them as external hard drives.

Dumb question: could I use the $20 wyze v3 camera I just bought as a dash cam or would that not work?
