I have no idea what people use the double-ply variant for, perhaps radiation shielding, but it's entirely unnecessary IMO.
This is all I buy and the only possible complaint a person could have is that it's (perhaps) a bit linty. It's also not cheap, but sometimes you actually do get what you pay for.
