I get these mini PCs for family computers or a local Minecraft server.
Should be fine for local media server. This processor should even be able to transcode 4k non-HDR media, but direct-play should be fine in any file.

I buy broken hinge laptops for media play. Usually I get 8th Gen i5 or i7 for $50 or so in Facebook and those will blow this out of the water but they aren't presentable and use more power. Luckily I have them hidden away in the closet. This is a good price though for a nice little machine you can carry with you. Why don't they add a cheap 720p cellphone LCD to this and make it a ring laptop, I don't get it.

interesting. the SATA memory hidden in the base is a smart move. pays tribute to the modular concept system before it.
i think the HP elite slice started the NUC like modular concept, and samsung also did artpc pulse with a cylindrical shape in 2016.

Malware on dirt cheap micro PCs from no name brand companies is common.

That said, would it not be possible to remove the m2 drive from this & replace it with one of your liking?

Recently ordered the Beelink Minis 12 Pro Mini PC with N100 Processor W-11 Pro for $169 + tax on Amazon which has 16GB DDR4 & 500GB SSD.

Same Chinese fare. Most of the mobos are made by one manufacturer and the ram is generic Chinese stuff. The SSD may be generic too, but also may be Crucial.

horrible deal because for $20-$30 more on sale you can get a intel n100 with ddr5, dual nic, usbc c and/or display port also

this has no display port, ddr4 and not ddr5, single nic as apposed to dual, no usb c and no display port

I'm not a mini-PC wiz and may have this comparison wrong. But I wish I had gotten a deal such as this for my homelab rather than my Raspberry Pi 5.

8 GB Raspberry Pi 5 @ $85 shipped
Enclosure w/ fan & NVMe @ $61 shipped
Still need a specific wall wart @ ~$15 shipped

This seems more capable, cheaper, and pre-assembled.
