Notice how you're getting lots of down votes. Give yourself a minute and try to figure out why.

By the way if your use case is gaming then why are you looking at a 16 core workstation CPU? The x3D chips are what you should be looking at.

If you need a motherboard the bundle is a much better deal.

A 3600X isn't anywhere close to the performance of a 3950X and I'm not sure where you're getting that 20% gain number. The 5950X absolutely destroys the 3600X in multi threaded tasks.

I bought one from this seller about a month ago for the same price. Arrived quickly and couldn't be happier.

Makes sense in a normal world. 1/3 the price for a 3 year old chip, but wait... Didn't the prices jack because of shortages. Are they still manufacturing this chip or is it backstock? It would seem odd that they would be manufacturing this chip today, no?

I'm not saying anything about the performance or quality of this chip, just that 3 years ago, we paid hefty premiums for basic chips because there was a shortage. If there were a shortage, how is there left over stock after 3 years?

I think it's similar to over stock of last gen gpus. They ramped up production to meet demand and over produced.

AMD just announced more AM4 chips earlier this year and recently they are launching an XT version of the 5000 series on AM4 and they hinted at launching more CPUs in 2025

Is it worth upgrading from my 3950x CPU on to this one? (it would be compatible w my existing x570 board)

I do lots of After Effects & Premiere and getting a new Mobo for the latest 7000 series chips (or incoming 8000 series) is outta the question at present due to a recent diagnosis of being broke af.

Not sure if I can help but I upgraded from a 5600x and can say I haven't noticed a difference in general tasks. Downloads, file transfers, and opening programs seems a little faster.

I play an ungodly amount of Civ 6 and I instantly noticed how quickly turns were finishing and game states were loaded. This alone made the upgrade worth it.
I bought this chip so I can save some money for the next 3 years and upgrade to whatever is latest.

Was it a direct swap or did you have to upgrade the mobo as well ?

I think it is. you are talking about a 20% bump in performance. Extend the life of your platform. I don't have this, I have two 5900x's in my system, upgraded from 3900x and I think it' s a pretty massive improvement. I plan on riding out AM4 for at least a few more years, maybe even 5.
