They cover their kids (and all other jackets) with long chain PFAS.

I loved their kids guide down jacket, but their marketing was that it had a safe DWR coating on their tags/info…. But no, it was not safe at all, the laws enacted in 30 states (this year 30 states will ban the toxic PFAS coating on kids jackets).

It's not just some hippy woke thing, it's actually a real concern once you understand the chemistry.

Marmot's MSRP maybe high, but the quality is great and they have a limited lifetime warranty.

Anyone know why the kids coat I'm looking at says it can't ship to CA, CO or NY? I hate this state! (CA)

Their entire sales strategy is old school, they are owned by a massive (one family owns it all) holding company that owns Coleman and many other brands.

Their regular sale prices are their "msrp", and if you can get 30% off plus if a price goes to final sale it's an "ok" price.

The main reason I know so much about this is that their stuff just fits people who have actual shoulder muscles… unlike a lot of Patagonia which is for euro metrosexual type he/shes..

Marmot puff down jackets are a little short however so be prepared to do the free return ship.

Quality is pretty good. Their new designs are not very good however. The guides down jacket used to be a great jacket with deep lined pockets. The new one the pockets do not have any "down" area, so anything you put in will fall out, and you can't rest your hands in the pockets. So they are heading down market and away from function and into kind of a fast fashion.

They do have a good warranty from experience.

Got a few items just a week ago. Some of those are still available with the extra 30% off. Has anyone had experience asking them for a price adjustment? The policy says they don't do that but maybe someone actually tried that. Don't really want to jump thru hoops with whole reordering and returning thing but the difference is quite substantial to let it slide. TIA

Probably because of how expensive it is to ship to those places. Also, those places are known for collapsing small businesses

Call their customer service number. Make sure you get a male on the line, they are located in Poland and for whatever odd reason the men on the team there hand out a lot of things and then ask for you to give them a positive feedback survey. They are highly motivated to do the survey.

The women are not good, they aren't management, they don't care. It's an odd situation: if you get a man on the support just explain you bought and still are within the return period and would be very happy with price adjustment. I bet it works (if you get a guy)

There was a good movie Dark Waters about pfas… it's not just some flakey worry, it's literally same urgency as bpa… many people very sick from this crap. Even republicans in 30+ states voted to ban it this year.

The main reason it's so insane is there is no reason to spray kids clothing with this crap… it's like it became a habit from the 1950s. Patagonia doesn't have any of this crap, you just wash rain/snow gear with nikwax and it actually works better and is more breathable (which is way more comfortable then being in almost a plastic bag type thing which pfas does)
