Actually it is an inert gas.
At neighbor's.
Yes because they don't keep them inside to sell or anything like that. Total urban legend.

Difficult?? Let me guess, you're in Comifornia? And why would you throw out unused gas? Also just add to or refill when empty.
Alameda County (Oakland, etc.) has free drop off collection sites.

Large retailers typically have higher density and/or high flow sprinklers in areas of the store where they store flammables like propane and spray paint. Not usually required by law, but required for insurance purposes.

Sure thing, lock yourself up in a room with a propane heater and take a nap. Wink

Which means you better get some gas-x with this

Edit: y'all gotta relax, it's a comedic gesture
I got more of a laugh out of all the thumbs down than the actual dad joke, lol

Can you attach the benzomatic torch lighter in this? I'll probably need to get the hose extension since it won't run upside down.
I need to seal my driveway cracks using the melted sticks thing.

If my house is burning down I'm not concerned about some 1lb propane's popping off.

How do you safely store these?
Mine are in a well-ventilated shed away from the house, not stored with anything valuable other than a mower which isn't expensive.

The best place is outside, away from any source of ignition such as flame/spark/hot wires/etc at least 10ft from the house, in a covered but not air tight box/shed to keep all rain/snow/sun off them, between -40F to 120F. I would try to keep them below 100F if possible, since the pressure relief valves on the tanks are supposed to be OK to 120F but they aren't high quality or precise so I've had a couple blow around 105F-110F before.

No fireman will ever tell you its OK to store propane or gasoline cans inside your house or in your garage, but many people do that and most haven't had a catastrophic problem. They just cause a really big problem if you have a house fire and the fire gets to the canisters, or if the canisters start leaking and gas vapor builds up inside the house and ignites it will explode and at the very least blow your windows out, or at worst blow your walls and roof apart.

Holy moly. Okay, you've convinced me. I'm going to store my spare propane tank outside on my deck in a covered container!

Who knew we'd be going to Target for the best price on these? Been many decades since in-store has had a decent outdoors section

Very not inert.

I mean, you're paying for the fact that they will easily oxidize with little input heat.

Why, because they still had propane in them? $10 adapter and you can empty them by using with a gas grill.

Plus, people on Craigslist will gladly take them off your hands in the free section.

Shoot, I would pay $1 for each empty can if they were delivered to my house.
