I bought this for 18.50 back in November (from Amazon), it has worked very well and heats the water quickly without causing a mess. I use filtered water from the fridge and haven't noticed much scale build up

Yep, it's a lift away base so you can easily take it off the base to pour or bring to a table or something.

I bought Elite gourmet in amazon. It has stainless steel interior, double wall insulate outside. It keeps water hot inside but outside is cool to touch. The price is around $17 but I got it with 30% off with AMEX promotion.

If the body is stainless or glass. You will got burn if touch it. For $4 more you can get the one with stainless interior and double wall insulate body. It is cool to touch and keep water hot longer. I bought the Elite Gourmet in Amazon for $17.67
