The atmosphere is pretty creepy
There are environmental and biological distortions that are ghosty.
The weapons and combat were derived from people knowledgeable about both and the weapons are pretty accurate in an encyclopedic sense.
One thing I never forget is the sound the dying characters make.
I also learned that when you open a closet look down in case a soldier is kneeling and ready to shoot you.
I remember reading about a soldier who was killed that way for real.
Another curious thing is that the characters dont say much and there are no women.
If you're tired of silly battle Barbies this is the game for you.
The first STALKER is the best imo

There are tons of mods depending on how you want to play the game and how faithful to the original you want the mods to be.
Rookie mistake. Always Google old games before buying them. These games do not support controllers. However, per my previous comment, there is an upgrade coming. The dev didn't say what the upgrade would have for PC (they just mentioned that it would get a PC upgrade, plus PS5 and Series X native versions), but since these games are now on PS4 and Xbox One (meaning they have controller support), it's likely that the upcoming upgrade will bring controller support to PC, and likely be supported on Steam Deck and the like. The upgrade is expected later this year. So, unless they release entirely new versions that you have to pay for again, you didn't waste your money. You just have to wait a while.

Yep the mods are fantastic, but a vanilla playthrough is the only way to introduce yourself to Stalker
